cake Engagement Dinner

So we have decided to have our Engagment dinner with ONLY our immediate family, foregoing the bigger engagement "party". We're going to have it at:

www.milleridge.com
**in this room http://www.milleridge.com/grandma_room.cfm
- it is 17 adults and 3 children, so that should fit us just fine. If we enjoy it, and we can afford it, then we'll have the wedding here as well... in this room
http://www.milleridge.com/milleridge_cottage.cfm **but i think we may have to settle for a smaller room...I have a feeling it'll be outrageously expensive. I've been to this place before, for several different functions, its always been delicious and the service is great. They have this mini-old-time-village there too...ohh its so cool!!

I've said it b-4 and I'm sure it won't be the last time I will say it. Why can't we have something like that around here.

It looks amazing!

THanks everyone You made me so much happier. The engagement dinner will be April 22nd at 7pm WOOOOHOOOO. I spoke to the woman today...its not that expensive really...for a sit down dinner - either way, whether we went there or to a nice restaurant we'd spend about the same amount - $30.95/head. Am I not supposed to say prices on here? I don't know if there are any rules about that. If there are, let us pretend I did NOT just mention it, and I'll never do it again!!

I'm excited that at least one thing is set up. We will put down the deposit today...its going to be in the "jericho" room. Even though we don't have that many people, they're allowing it for 17 guaranteed guests, which I can guarantee!

If anyone is in the area, they are great to work with. They're so easy - so far at least. They had a solution to each minor concern I had.

THanks again for being excited with me everyone. I can use it. I felt like I got beat up by my normally extra-supportive Mom today - I believe it is because of her feelings about not being able to pay more towards the wedding. My FH's family has a little more money than my parents do. They would never flaunt it though - yet still it apparently bothers my Mom enough to make me feel badly. I was going to post this on "second time brides" but I might as well get it over with here. She said to me "WE'RE STILL PAYING OFF YOUR OTHER WEDDING"....
OUCH. I wanted to get wise and say something nasty but...I didn't. I just apologized that she looked at it that way and reiterated that their help would not be required this time around.

Of course she calmed down later on. Still - the way she acted and what she said really hurt my feelings. And I have to share it with my FH so he understands what is going on - I don't hide things from him. But I know it will make him feel a little badly as well. We'll get through it.

Ugh.
Anyway, thanks again - you can see why YOUR support is so valuable!

Okkk so the engagement dinner has moved up considerably...it is now on Sunday April 2nd (b/c it would be strange having it on April Fool's Day)... it will be from 12-3 at the same place I told you guys about!! I'm excited, it'll be over with sooner. I'm really happy. I feel like its one thing UNDER MY BELT!!

That venue looks really lovely I think you'll all have a wonderful time!

So how come it moved up? Is that when they had the space for you? Have you booked it for the wedding already?

Thanks girls.

Ann, it moved up b/c my FH's family would prefer a Sunday - and we wanted to do it within the next month, but every sunday - well, every weekend in April is a holiday OR my boys are at their Dads...and they of course have to be there. So that just worked out better

I CAN'T WAIT

Just an update....the engagement dinner is ON for the 2nd I'm stoked. we made our meal choices. There will be 16 people (plus my 2 kids and FH's 1 year old niece). We are going to get a pretty flower arrangement - one on each end of the table...and give it to our mom's to take home!
Now....this is being hosted by my FH's parents...in general. My parents are paying the bar tab and all extras the day of... should FH & I pick up something little for everyone who comes? I mean its all immediate family only... and we have got only 1 week to do it. Do you think it is necessary. FH & I say no...

P.S. We are going this weekend to do some registering. Apparently a lot of people want to get us gifts for the engagement. I didn't think I'd be excited about that, but I am. I am really praying I'm not becoming like that MOH's bride...I don't remember her name...but I think you guys know who I'm talking about. I SWEAR ITS NOT ALL ABOUT THE GIFTS!!!

I don't think you need to get any one any thing for the party. This party is to celebrate your engagement. Given the mothers the flowers for helping out would be a nice gift.

We are going today to register - why - when we do not even have a wedding date, you ask?? Well simply, his entire family, far and wide, wants to buy us gifts for our engagement and don't know what we would like. I suggested money, which according to my FMIL is good. But a few want to get actually presents and she suggested we register...at least for those few. So when they call her and ask, she can tell them "bed bath and beyond".

The boys have gone to their Dad's for the weekend and I'm looking forward to some "sweet talkin time" with my FH. This week was insane next wekeend is the dinner, it'll be crazed! We need some time to chill together.

Default Almost time

Okay...so Sunday is the dinner..we have decided on our menu...

Appetixer - Chilled Melon Slices

Salad - Mixed Green with italian dressing

Entree choices:
Roast Prime Ribs of Western Beef
Pan Seared Medallions of Veal Marsala
Boneless Double Breast of Chicken Francais
***Chafing dishes
Saurbraten
Leg of Lamb

Dessert is ... Seven Layer Cake (Don't ask me what its layered with lol)
2 - 1 pound trays of homemade cookies on each end of the table, and a Sugar free napoleon for my Mom (diabetic)

Hope it sounds good to everyone....

I went shopping yesterday and got a white denim sorta teaish lenght skirt (that gives you a clear picture...ha) at NY & Co (does this belong in advertisements?? Sorry).... and I am going to go tonight to find a nice top to wear with it...and matching shoes...I'm excited that the first phase will be over with.

Tomorrow I am going to look at another catering hall for the actual reception..we'll see what happens.

No truer statement has ever been spoken!!! There are never enough hours in the day when you have kids... then add wedding planning (what I really need is a little taz icon spinning around and around)
