Default White bumps

I have white bumps on the back of my throat. I feel crappy, can't breathe, my back and neck ache like no other. Is it the flu? Strep? Ideas for home remedies?
To make matters worse, my family doctor retired last month, AND my employer has switched insurance companies and I don't have a card. Bad time to be ill...
Sorry, just wanted to whine.

If you know the new insurance name try to find a number and call them and ask them what doc u can go to and what u need to do. Also try some salt water I know it don't taste good but it does help. Hope you feel better!

Hot tea with lemon (an honey) also have some natural antibacterial powers.
I hope you feel better soon!

Feel better! I'm with breezy on the hot tea (but i dont put lemon... just honey)... if your throat actually HURTS, sucking on a spoonful of honey always soothes me!

white bumps on the back of the throat are a symptom of strep, so I'm betting that's what you've got.

to strep...don't have time. I did find some antibiotics, but only three days' worth, so it may not do any good. And salt water is something I do, even if it is for only ten minutes of relief. Thanks for the well wishes tho!

do you still have your tonsils. When I get tonsilitis (sp) I always get white bumps/puss pockets on my throat. Just an idea.

No, no tonsils. Those were taken out when I was 5. Blah.

Aw. That sucks that you don't have insurance. Don't take just 3 days' worth of anti-biotics. It could make it worse not having the full course.

Do you have a fever (>99.6)? If so--DEFINATELY stay home from work tomorrow. If not, it's up to how you're feeling. Assumming you stay home, call someone from work tomorrow to find out the insurance and any doctors you can go see. You need to get cultured for strep. Don't take the 3 days of antibiotics, the bug will just come back worse in a week. For now, gargle with warm salt water, take tylenol every 4 hours to keep the fever down and help you not ache. If your nose is runny, over the counter Claritin (or the genaric loratidine) will help cut down on that. HTH!

No, I haven't been running a fever. And I stopped taking the antibiotics 'cause you all said to (so see, I do listen to others lol). I've been taking Ibu, mostly because I don't want to take medicine that has about five other things in it I don't need. My back still hurts a little, but not as bad as it was on Friday. Mostly it just hurts to swallow. No fun for eating.
I plan on going to work tomorrow, but I am also getting into the doctor A.S.A.P. No worries though, if I have a fever I would definitely not go to work. We have a 24 hour fever-free policy with the kids, and I follow with that myself.

White bumps in the throat definitely sounds like it could be strep.

Is your neck feeling a little sore/stiff? Do you feel really ran-down? Those are two other symptoms of strep. When I had it a couple of years ago, it came on rather suddenly. I actually thought I had meningitis because of the sore neck; I thought it was stiff.

You don't have to answer this, but does your breath and mouth stink, regardless of how often you brush your teeth? That's another sign of strep; the infection makes your mouth and breath stink. My sister used to get it a lot, and when she did, her breath would be horrendous, even a few minutes after she brushed her teeth.

Yes, my neck and back both did feel stiff/sore on Friday really bad. The rest of the weekend and today it isn't nearly as bad. I also feel exhausted, even after doing nothing. My friend actually told me to check out menegitis, b/c of my neck.
I haven't noticed any stinky stinky breath, but I have nothiced that when I get up I have a nasty film in my mouth. I'm going to try and find another doctor today, and the girls at work told me to just use the ins. card I have, and then I can refile it with my new card when I get it. Ah...the joys of life.

ETA- I checked this morning, and the white bumps aren't nearly as noticeable as they were before. Is that good?

I'd still get it checked out. The white bumps are probably infection, even if it's not specifically strep throat.

I got the insurance info I needed today from work, going to call and find a doctor tomorrow. So that's good news at least.

Well....seeing as how I've had a pretty crappy week (no pun intended) no doctor was called. However, I had felt better. Until today. My throat hurts again...and my nose is becoming congested also. I blame the weather...it's rained for two days already and is going to do so for the next five. Guess I'll be making phone calls tomorrow....again. Sigh, I've spent so much time on the phone this week calling service people.
