Default When to want RSVP's back?

How soon before the wedding date did you ask (or are you asking) your guests to send their RSVP back? I know that people won't exactly stick to the schedule and so there needs to be room for late responders and time hunt down those who don't respond, but how much time did you allow?

I allowed for almost three weeks. That's probably a little long than most but I really wanted to know how many planned to attend so I could finish up all the other little details.

My date is 24th, and I asked people to rsvp by the 5th. Reason: I need to have a head count by 10 days prior & I know there will be people that don't respond, I'll have to chase them down

I asked for them back 3 weeks prior. Our caterer needed 2 weeks notice for the headcount and that gave me an extra week to call the people who didn't RSVP.

I think I did about 2 to 2.5 weeks before the wedding.

I also did three weeks before. My caterer needed info 10 business days before (so really two weeks). Threfore, I also had one week to check up on the stragglers.

My invites went out 3 monthe before the wedding, and RSVP was one month before. The count wasn't just for the caterers - we were doing a lot of DYI projects (favors, table cards, centerpieces) that required an early headcount.
