Things to do in NYC on your Honeymoon
Hey, Ann...
As I was thinking of some table names for you in the other thread, I thought of something you can do in NYC while you and Mo are here on your honeymoon. See a taping of a television show! Many shows tape here, such as: David Letterman, Martha Stewart, Conan O'Brien, the Daily Show, etc. Best of all, they're free! Only problem is that some might be all booked by now for a May taping, but they do have stand-by tickets. Here are some links:
David Letterman: http://www.cbs.com/latenight/latesho...t_ticket.shtml
Martha Stewart: http://www.marthastewart.com/page.jh...at&id=cat20042
List of other shows available: http://gonyc.about.com/od/tvtapings/index_a.htm
And as Maggie mentioned in another thread, there is a TKTS booth right in the middle of Times Square where you can purchase same-day performance tickets of many Broadway and off-Broadway plays at discounted prices.
And I mentioned this in another thread:

In addition to the subways here in NY you should try the hop-on hop-off tour buses. I haven't been on the NYC ones so I can't attest to the quality of the service, but I utilized the London ones and they were great. Essentially they are a bus service for tourists stopping at all the landmarks. But the buses just keep going around and around all day so you can hop-off at one landmark, take a look, and then catch the next bus to the next landmark. Along the way a tour guide will point out some interesting (and some not so interesting) facts about the city. It's great because you don't have to worry about getting off at the wrong station or getting lost, because the bus will only take you where most tourists want to go. It's a great way to scratch off all the sightseeing you have to do, so that you'll have more time to just walk around and experience the real city. But with the traffic in NYC, you'll probably get around faster by foot then by bus.
|
Hope this helps!

I don't know if it's as meaningful for people who don't live in the US to visit the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, but if it is... for relatively cheap you can do both. Make sure you share a granita (it's a frozen non-alcoholic drink) when you're at the Statue. I know a lot of NYers who've never gone, and they have an opportunity to whenever they want. I Ellis Island.
OMG and when you're in Times Square go to the 4-story Toys R Us. You have to. There's a ferris wheel INSIDE the building. And it's open all night. Awesome awesome place to be.

Yeah, I was telling Ann in a PM that I'm not that great of a help on NYC sightseeing because, like many NY'ers, I take it all for granted and have never actually been to many of the landmarks. The only place I really loved to go was the World Trade Center observation deck, especially at night when they turned off most of the lights so you can easily view the skyline. I took Cheryl there when we were still dating and had a tiramisu we picked up in Little Italy. It was very romantic. Maybe, Ann, you and Mo can go to the Empire State Building at night and do something like that (a la Sleepless in Seattle). But I've never been there so I wouldn't know for sure.

I really like museums, so I'll go ahead and say I wouldn't miss the Museum of Modern Art, though there are others you could attend.
Madame Tussauds Wax Museum is fun and goofy, too.

Honestly- I love to just walk around in the summer. There is ALWAYS a street fair if you walk long enough- you'll find one.
OH- the best breads/ pizza/ cookies are on Arthur Avenue. I love that it looks like a scene out of A Bronx Tale. There are still "gentlemens clubs" where there are just older Italian men smoking ciagrs. hehe.. I love it.
ETA: A must see, I believe it's in the Museum of Natural History (I could be wrong) The planetarium. AWESOME. Just AWESOME!

Chelsea Market (near the Meatpacking District) - home of the Food Network. In fact, I had linch with DH there once, and we saw Mario Batali right at the next table!
Also, South Street Seaport. Lots of shopping, restaurants and a great view of the Brooklyn Bridge (maybe a fishy smell, but that's a small price to pay). In fact, for those of you who put up with me yapping about my centerpieces and bouquets, a lot of the seashells involved came from one of the SSS shops (including the conch shells that became bouquet holders)

What's that famous gourmet grocery store called? I think it starts with a "B". I remember always wanting to call it Bazaar, but I know that's not right.

I have only been to NY City once back in 98 on a school trip. I will say the Empire State Building at night is a must. They took us in the day time and we couldn't really go that high cause of the wind. So we was lucky and they took us back at night it was amazing I have never seen any thing like it. I love musicals and plays but had never been to a real show till I went to "Beauty and the Beast" I had never watched the real movie but it is one of my favorites now. I can close my eyes sometimes and still see a few parts. I cried like a baby over all the excitement. I know the ones that go all the time are but for a small town country gal it was the wildest thing I had every seen.
I almost 4-got you need to go to the Today Show and stand outside the big window so we all can see you.

Lol, I am just imagining the trouble I could get into in New York. Especially if I were to party...which would have to happen at least one night.

Here's a website with a NYC street fair schedule: http://www.nycstreetfairs.com/sched.html
I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but I hope it helps...

Another place where you need to go eat - Ellen's Stardust Diner. It's a retro-50's themed dinner, and the waitstaff since and dance! I was there once, and our waitress was one of the Fembots from Austin Powers!
(I don't mean she dress up like one - she really played one in the movie)

Free Kayaking
For the more adventurous types, you can go kayaking on the Hudson River for free at the Downtown Boathouse. My sister and her husband do this all the time and they love it. And, did I mention it's free?
