Default ? about registries

OK...this may be a dumb question, but I will ask it anyways. I am going to start to register at soem stores, before things get too busy in my life and I can't get to it. The question is: If I register for a cockpot at one store, then go to another store should I register for it there too or skip that? I don't want to end up with a ton of double of things, but not sure where the majority of the guest will shop.

I would register for one of everything you want. Pick the best from all your options at all the stores and go with it. If you register for 1 crock pot at 3 different places, you very well may end up with 3 crock pots.

I would just register for one, and if you're out looking after you've registered for the first and find one you'd prefer I'd go for it and contact the other store to take it off their list.

I was wondering about that too... There is a store I really like for kitchen wear and linen but the guests would need to go into the city because there isn't a branch closer to us.

I was wondering if I should only register for linen I'd really like at the store out of town or if I should register for some second choice linen at a popular local shop that is part of a national chain and convenient for everone...

In the end I chose to register for just about everything at the store that's most convenient for everyone... If we get any cash I can put that towards the bedding I'd really like!

I would only register for one of the item no matter how many stores you are registering with. Agreed with Margie.

I with the others I would only put it on one store. You don't want 2 or more of the same thing.

I registered for the same things at different stores. Like you said, you never know where people will shop, and many people like to have lots of choices! I did receive some duplicates, but they weren't that bad to exchange!

I agree w/ Margie on this... and keep in mind that at least some of your guests may do their shopping online. If you register for something at one place and then find it at another more accessible and/or affordable store where you also have a registry, it's usually fairly easy to just delete it from the registry you no longer wish to have it in.

We were registered at Macy's, Bed Bath & Beyond and Target. The china I wanted was much less expensive at BB&B (and they had a better selection) than at Macy's so that's the registry we put it on. But Target had a lot of other things that BB&B stocked that we wanted, so we just went with the store that had the best price.

When BIL got married, they had FOUR registries and a lot of the same stuff on at least two of them. Since I was shopping online for their gift, it was a bit confusing to see the same things listed at two or three stores. It also seemed a bit greedy b/c it was all high-end stuff (china, $300 coffeemakers).

Don't set yourself up for a lot of returns by having the same things on different registries, unless what you're really hoping for is cash to buy what you really want (I don't really like this either but it seems that some people are ok with it).

Also keep in mind MANY stores will NOT offer a cash refund for exchanges. They will only give you store credit. I think it could be a problem if you have to return the duplicate of everything and then be left with store credit when you have nothing left that you need/want. If it were me, I would only register for one of each item. Most (if not all) the stores you register at will probably have online shopping, so if they "run out" of available gifts at one store, I would think it likely they could either shop online for the other store or at least give you cash or something--knowing what you really want and hoping you'll buy it for yourself with the money.

I've ALWAYS gotten store credit when returning a gift.

I would not register for crock pots (or anything else you don't need more than one of) at more than one store.

In fact, I only registered at one store, period. It was much easier for me to keep track of my registry because I only had one to keep track of.

Nowadays, it's RARE to get a cash refund for a returned gift. Every store I shop in gives store credit when you're returning something you received as a gift. The only time I've ever received cash back is when I bought the item and I paid cash in the first place. Otherwise, it's store credit or they credit the credit card you used to buy the item(s).

FYI, bed bath and beyond will give you CASH back on anything on your registry as long as you have an i.d.

That may be true, but I still would not register for gifts with the attitude that you're going to return them for cash. I think that's wrong, but that's just IMO.

Oh, I know what you meant. However, I have met some people who really do this - register for TONS of stuff they don't want or need in the hopes that they'll be able to return a bunch of it for cash.

That is so terribly inconsiderate. People are such jerks.

We didn't register anywhere and had no returns (I personally hate getting lists of stuff in invites of what people expect and decided it was not something I wanted to do). Everyone knew us and if the were curious, they asked us what we wanted (Gift cards for home improvement stuff, etc.). I have never bought a wedding gift from a registry, I normally know the people well and get creative.......... One couple even got a 30x36 stained glass panel for a wedding gift from me. Registers are great, but don't expect to get everything on them and don't be upset when people get creative like me!

I think one store is most likely the best option if you do register.

I do not expect to get everything on my list. I would love if someone got creative with a gift. I am not looking to make a list of everything I want and that will be the only thing I am happy with. That is not how I am. If someone gave me something that was not on my list I will be pleased with it. I love different things. That is why I am doing something for the wedding with a twist to them.

I wasn't meaning YOU specifically. I hope you didn't think I meant that.
