No rice no confetti no bird seed no bubbles!!!
No rice no confetti no bird seed no bubbles!!! It is in big print we can not use these for after the reception. We talked about sparklers but they are real hard to get them to light. Plus we are looking at it to still be day light. Any one every did the butterfly thing? Or does anyone have any other suggestions?

It is not confetti but these popper things. I have only seen them. You pull the string and out come streamers but they stay attached to the container so the person can dispose of it after it is used. Hope this helps. There was a butterfly person some time ago based out of CO I think.

I looked into the butterfies for my wedding. I don't remember the site. I remember that they were relatively expensive and that they are shipped to you. You have to use them within three days of receiving them or they die.
You could also use white doves.

They said that bubbles make the side walk slippery. I'm not to big on bubbles my self. I've seen a few dresses killed with spots from the bubbles. With all the bead work on my dress when having it dried cleaned it might melt the bead work. It did my sisters any ways. I did look into the butterfly thing and The price is crazy 95.00 for a dozen.

I'm not a fan of the butterflies. A friend of mine did them and most of them fell immediately to the ground when released. It was actually quite disturbing and sad to watch. They should also be released into the proper environment - there's a whole process with using them.

I agree with Cru5h. What about rose petals? Unless they'd make the sidewalk too slippery too...I know you can get fake petals pretty cheap at Oriental Trading. Maybe you can contact someone else that's had an event there and see what they did?

I'm voting for rose petals. I'd be freaked out if there were a bunch of butterflies flying around. Ick.

The lady that showed us the building told us they find that most people now just skip that part. My fh uncle was a big member of this church b-4 he died helped build on to this church and did allot of stuff. Also the minster there is a real good friend of our minster for the wedding. So I'm going to see if I can pull string. Yea those butterfly's would be nice but who wants to pay that much when U don't know if it is going to work. I like the rose petals but then someone will have to pick them all up.

Can't someone just sweep them up? You're outside (obviously if you were thinking about butterflies). If there's a garden beside where you're walking out, someone can just sweep them into the garden and they'll decompose there. That's of course providing you use real rose petals.

do you have your heart set on having stuff thrown at you? We skipped it all together and I don't think anyone missed it.
This is really weird, but I went to a wedding once where we threw popcorn at the couple. It actually looked really cool in the photos, but people were eating it as they were waiting for the couple to come outside. Strange.

How about getting 2ft long skinny wooden dowels at the craft store and spray painting them in one of your wedding colors. Make long thin fluttery strips of soft fabric also in wedding colors. Staple to end of dowel. Have the lined up participants wave/flutter them as you walk under. Like when people wave flags at a parade.
If you want to get really really crafty, then you can write your names and the wedding date on the fabric pieces.

I like the idea of rose petals! I think they are simple and classic, and they would be great if you are going to change your colors to red.

Ditto on the rose petals, that sounds nice.
I'm thinking of using them on my tables with candles and mirrored tiles for centerpieces.
I sent away for some free samples of fake ones from www.artisticaisles.com and they are a really nice quality and come in all kinds of colors. I thought the price was good, too. Tom thought they were real when he first saw them and couldn't understand why I had a) had them mailed to me and b) was stapling them into my notebook of wedding plans. So cute.
I know you had said your colors were going to be red, black, and silver; they sell a combo of red, magenta, and black petals there, here's a pic.
Like I said, they really were a nice quality. I was suprised because the prices were pretty good, IMO.
ETA: Just read the post where you said you'd use real...sorry, so lame. Maybe it'll help somebody else...? Sorry for the useless info.

The streamers don't stay connected...

Actually, we use those poppers every year for New Year's. The streamers DO NOT stay attached to the container most of the time. I should know - I'm usually still finding streamers for a couple of weeks AFTER New Year's!
I would also NOT recommend butterflies. I think it's cruel. First, they're packaged in these tiny paper triangles. From what I understand, not all of the butterflies are "active" when they're released; some of them fall to the ground. Can you imagine a bunch of unconscious butterflies falling to the ground? Yuck! Then, more often than not they're not being released into their native environment, which can kill them because they're so delicate.
I don't think you need anything. We didn't have anything thrown or released, and no one missed it.

LOL! I'm so dumb! I thought you were gonna tell her to have her guests smack them with the sticks as they walked out!
Can you tell I just woke up?

That would be so sad to see the butterflies all just fall to the ground. I think that would be sending the wrong vibe for your wedding.
The rose petals would be different but still classic looking and pretty. If you went with the red petals, it would be a pretty contrast to your white dress and the ground.
The popcorn idea is really interesting. It actually sounds kind of fun and a good snack if you're the first out of the building That could add up to a lot of popcorn to make beforehand though.

Pop Corn Oh my I have never heard of that one. It would be easy for me to make a lot of popcorn (my sister has one of those poppers at the daycare) But I just can't see doing that. It would be a mess to clean up. I am leaning more toward the rose petals but still don't know if they will let us do it. Mom and I was going up there today to look and talk to the lady but something always comes up. Step Grandfather got put in the hos yesterday so she will spend her day there...

We got freeze dried rose petals rom www.flyboynaturals.com and they looked amazing, we used Reba Red. They look fresh! If you actually want them hydrated, just leave the box open in a steamy bathroom and they pop right back to fresh. Ours were sprinkled down the bridal pathway, and just the little bit of moisture from the grass brought them right back. The nice thing about using them dry is that they aren't slippery, and they won't crush and stain anything. They also have other flower petals available - peony and hydrangea off the top of my head. They offer 'brides on a budget' petals as well - imperfect petals that still look beautiful. If you are using these for a toss only, I would go with the budget ones. You can make very simple, pretty and inexpensive paper cones for your guests to hold them in.

Yeah, this actually happened at a wedding I attended. I think some of them had died...at any rate, there were about two butterflies that made it out of the boxes, the rest of us just had a bunch of dead/knocked out bugs in little boxes. They weren't especially pretty butterflies, either. Looked more like moths. Very yucky.

Streamer Throws
Here they are! Someone mentions streamers that stay attatched - these aren't party poppers. They ar elittle capsules that your open, loop the handle sround tour hand and 'throw.' The capsules stays in your hand, and the streamers are attached to the capsule. Looks like a good alternative for a place that won't let you use those other things.

I also vote no on the butterflies, it would make me sad at a wedding to see them trapped in their little paper prisons.

My bad, LisaMarie
I've never seen what you're talking about. I've only ever seen the party poppers. Teaches me to stop talking when I'm uninformed!
