Default Inner Envelope

Do you need to have the lined inner envelope for the invitations? Can we just have the invitation, rsvp card with a return envelope all in the outer envelope only?

Thanks

Default Only for super-formals...

The inner envelope can be ditched for all but those super-formal wedding invitations (usually engraved invites with calligraphy lettering). The practice is split on this: many couples find that the inner envelope is THE way to convey exactly who is invited to the wedding. I know, the outer envelope is addressed to Mr. and Mrs. X, but they like to clarify on the inner envelope that it's JUST Mr. and Mrs. X who are invited. The inner envelope is often where any children's names would be listed if kids are invited. That's one school of thought for traditionalists.

Now, when it's NOT an ultra-formal invitation, the going trend is to skip the expense (both ordering and postal) for the inner envelope while 'bending' etiquette to write Mr. and Mrs. X and Miss Ashley X on the outer envelope.

If you're looking for something a little visual for your envelope packets, you can either choose internal liners for your outer envelopes in any color or perhaps pearlized, or order fun, patterned or textured envelope liners that you order yourself. I have sources on that if anyone is interested.

Great question!

How do the liners work? We are also going with only one envelope but the envelope we picked is translucent. It's slightly frosted but you can still see through. Would a liner work with our envelopes?

Default How liners work

Great question!

Liners are sheets of either paper or vellum that you can either slide into your envelope with the design side showing through your translucent envelope, or with the design side showing when you open the envelope. Some are just cut-to-fit slide-ins while the better ones have a thin advesive strip (like a Post-It) that you attach to the side ends of the liner. Carefully, you'll slide these into your envelope and then slap it shut to seal the fit. You'll find elegant glossies or pearlized liners, solid colors, or bright patterns. Check out the liners at www.mountaincow.com for samples of what you can find out there. I happen to recommend MountainCow's because I've used them and love how easy they are to affix.
