Informal Wedding Dresses
Hi there,
I am having a really hard time finding informal wedding dresses - does anyone know of any good websites or shops in London where I can find nice simple informal wedding dresses?
Thanks
Emily

Welcome to Pash!!
What kind of dress, specifically, are you looking for? Something white and simple? Or a wedding dress--just not the big, pouffy kind? Have you googled: white dresses, evening gowns, informal wedding dresses? Or search department stores in their dress departments, not the bridal departments?

Welcome to Pash! I'm sorry, I know nothing about shops in London, but I think MTGH's suggestion of googling it is a good one. Looking forward to hearing more about you!

Hey girls thanks for responding! I am getting married back home in NZ outside in the middle of summer - so really I am wanting something about mid-calf length and summery. I am going to have a look at Debenhams at some stage so I am hoping I will find something there! I have searched all possible sites on the net and all that seems to come up are big formal merangue dresses! Not that I have anything against those types of dresses - its just that something like that wont be suitable for my big day!

Is there a JCPenny? I've seen a few dresses there that I may use for myself. Let me know and I'll track down the links.

unfortunately England doesnt have JCPennys! There are a couple of big department stores in London that I will definitely go and have a look at with my bridesmaids!

Here's one in the UK:

Google "destination wedding dresses" (or gowns), as well. That will help you find informal, summery-type dresses, too.

I'll suggest a designer....Maggie Sottero has some really pretty informal gowns. However, they're a little pricey. But, you can go to bridalsuperstore.com and get a quote from them, and it's cheaper that way. (The dress I bought was $700 at the store, the website gave me a quote of $500, and the store matched it.) The same website also has a slew of other designers, so it's worth a look.
Ok, done with my promoting now, lol. (OMG-I just looked at what I typed and paid for my dress... )

I am consdering going with an ivory bridesmaid dress (see my post under wediquette for a pic) the brands that I looked at had many dresses that came in ivory and white and the materials are quality ones so they don't look as bridesmaidy. The brands I liked were Alfred Sung and after six. Not sure if you can get them there. I just wanted to pass along the info. good luck

Also J Crew has a wedding collection with informal dresses that are long and short. They are very very pretty. http://www.jcrew.com/ms/weddingshop/splash.jhtml

I have a JCrew dress I chose to wear for the wedding. It's a white linen spaghetti strap halter from last summer. I might not wear it now because my tastes have changed, but I got a really good deal on it, and could wear it for the honeymoon instead. I like the idea of informal wedding dresses because I'm having a beach wedding. I don't want to drag a fabulous, elegant, long gown through the dirt.

I'd think Debenhams will definately be worth a look. Monsoon have some stunning dresses that might work though they tend to be a bit out of my budget range! And John Lewis should be worth looking around too as they tend to stock beautiful dresses... I'd avoid most of the big bridal boutiques because they'll charge you an arm and a leg for anything!
There is a shop in Glasow that specialises in wedding dresses for destination wedding, I'm not sure if it's a national company or a local one... Let me see if I can find the name... I think it is Capri Skies.
I went for an ivory bridesmaid dress to save £
