Crochet
It is a craft so I thought it should go here...
A few blankets I made. They are all completed now but these are the pics I have of them.
American Flag - Had to make each star then sew it on. One on the front and one on the back so that makes 100 stars.
Purple blanket I did for SIL to give to a couple getting married she knew.
Made this blanket for another SIL for her wedding present before she was a even to be a SIL to me.

Those are beautiful! I tried to knit and I tried to crochet a scarf and I made it slightly further with the crocheting but I'm still sans a home-made scarf. Just not my talent I guess.

Thank you. If it were not for the ladies who I consider to be my other grandmothers (I worked as a school bus driver while in school and there were several older ladies) I probably would not have this hobby.

Those are beautiful! Once you get the hang of it, how long does it take to complete blankets like that? (Not the one with the stars, since I imagine the 100 stars made it a lot longer).

Those are great LisaMarie.
I'm not going to be seeing my MIL for quite some time, and I've been holding off on continuing my practice so she could teach me. Do you think it's possible to give me pointers online? I could send you a picture of my strings, lol. Maybe you can tell me what I'm doing wrong when I get to the second row...
Remember ladies, order your custom color strings for Christmas today - cat toys, shoe-laces and very skinny belts & ties.

My mother has tried to teach me how to do this. I just can't get past the first row. I guess maybe I can pick it up one day. They look great...

Heather~
Practice practice practice is all I can tell you w/out seeing your work. It took me some time to get it. I do not know how many times I took work out bc I was not getting it. I can try to give you help. Not sure if I will be much help though. It might also be something you are doing as you crochet which I can not see since we do not have video. But I will give it my best shot if you would like me to look at your 2nd row.

Or if they're red and green, they can be used as garland on a Christmas tree!

Just gorgeous. How long does it take you to do one like the purple one?
Heather, one summer, I was about 8, my friend and I learned to knit. My mother gave us each a set of needles- but they were skinny. After 3 months of steady work, we each had a strip 7 inches wide and 2 inches long. Not even enough to be a Barbie afghan!

LOL Wynelle - we should go into business together.
The yarn I have is green Margie! I think my problem is that the yarn is "too nice". I bought really expensive, soft, green yarn - perfect for a blanket. I need to go back and get some of the cheap, thinner yarn to practice more with.

Heather I have a crocheting book- that I can scan and email to you. It has pictures- and it's not hard to go by.

That would be so nice, thank you! Right now I have "Crocheting for Dummies" but it's the instructions for doing the second row that I can't seem to get right.
Thank you!

What kind of stich are you doing? Straight across? I learned how to crochet when I was very young- and could not master that. Seems like it would be the easiest- but not for me. I found that the "granny square" was the easiest. When I get home I'll scan for you.

wynelle~
I think the purple one took maybe 30 to 40 hours. I typically crochet while I am watching TV so my mind is not totally focused on crocheting so I go slow.
My knitting baby blanket that I started has taken me like 20 hours to get 2' across by 6" to 8" long. I have given up for now as I want to finish the baby blankets for my family and friends. Baby is due in Jan. and I just started the other day on the blanket. YIKES!!!
Thank you ladies. I love showing off my work bc I am not really sure how many people I actually give blankets to realize how my time and love went into them.

LM, that American Flag blanket is awesome. I think my mom made one very similar. Just this morning I had gotten out the yarn and book that I just bought to make a baby blanket for our friends. They aren't due until May, but I want to get it done, in case I don't have as much time to work on it as I'd like. My one afghan that I posted a pic of a while back took me 2 years to make! But, I really didn't work on it much in the winter and that darn thing is huge. And since it was a "sampler afghan" each square was different, so it took longer than if they were all the same.
I do love crocheting though. It's so relaxing. Most of the time. Thanks for sharing your beautiful work.

Thank you. Baby blankets are pretty easy to do. Some go really fast. I have been able to complete 2 and start a 3rd in 1 month but that is if I am working on it every night for like an 1 or so while I watch TV.

I've gotten quite a bit done already this weekend. It's going to be really pretty. Since it's still too early to know what the sex of the baby, I'm making it a pale yellow. It's basically 4-5 rows of DC V stitch and then 1 row of 3 dc in each v-stitch. It's very delicate. As a mom, are these really nice to have, or are you afraid to use it b/c you don't want to ruin it? I want them to use it...

Do you guys get your yarn and needles/hooks online? I thought maybe we could share resources because there isn’t really anywhere near me that has a decent selection. I usually buy from Yarn mart ( http://www.yarnmarket.com/) they have a wide selection of yarn and some cool projects but they are pricey. I am working on three projects right now so I want to finish them before I move on bc I have a habit of starting and not finishing projects… but I really want to make this top http://www.yarnmarket.com/projects/G...g_Top-239.html. It would be a real challenge and I think it is cute (although I couldn’t wear it lol).

That is great you got that much done already. Sounds very pretty. I did a v-stitch pattern so I know exactly what it looks like. I love my blankets that I made along w/ the ones my Mom and Grandmother made. I kind of have to be careful now w/ Grandma's one bc Ethan really pulled on a few pieces of yarn and that one is knitted. I have one crocheted blanket that I do not use much but that is only bc it was not made by a family member. Guess I am biased there.
I guess it is different for each person on whether or not they will use it. Several women I know use crochet or knit blankets for their babies. I have yet to ever see one of my blankets ever be used but we do not live by anyone I gave them to (will very soon, baby due in Jan).

I do not buy yarn or hooks online. I purchased a set of hooks several years ago and I have not needed additional hooks till recently (needed an N so I go it at Wal-Mart when I was there).
I use to buy yarn at Michael's. But now I buy at Wal-Mart (really like Simply Soft by Caron, I believe it is).
The only other place I purchased yard was a local yarn store that specializes in wool yarn. I wanted to make a wool diaper cover since I cloth diaper (CD).
The shirt looks very pretty. Why could you not wear it? That would be sad to make such a nice shirt and not be able to wear it.

Some new things I made:
Off white which looks like a pale yellow in person blanket I gave to my neighbor who just had the 3rd which was a girl (surprise). The pattern is caller Spiderweb but in yellow it looks like a sun.
Blanket I sent to a former LLL leader who moved away. The meeting were at her house and now they are at my home.
Baby poncho and hat. I found these online and just had to make them. DH thinks I should make them and sell them especially during the summer when all the tourists are here.
That is it for now. Got a few more in progress.
