Let's compile a list of things new couples "must-have" on their wedding registries. In other words, what household items do you have that you couldn't live without?

DISCLAIMER:
Yes, I'm aware that not everyone will have a registry, and that not everyone will agree with what is posted here. This is to be helpful for couples who don't live together yet, have not lived on their own yet, or have been together so long it's time to get some refresher items going on, not an all-informational saga about how you wished everyone just gave you cash.

There, now that that's squared away - on with the list-making. Because, truth be told, I'm one of the people considering what I'd want on my registry even if I do have a few ideas of my own.

NICE soft sheets I'm the type to buy them myself, but people expect to see linens, and dammit, I'm gonna give 'em what they want! We need replacements on ours anyway.

Rubber spatula Small detail, yes. My best friend in the kitchen.

Espresso maker God and Tupac want you to have one. There's nothing more heavenly in the morning than a nice hot cortadito.

My must haves were:
*A microwave
*A stand mixer
*soft sheets (200 thread count or better

)
*comforter
*towels
*bathroom set
*Silverware
*knife set

That's all I can think of right now.

Here are things I get a lot of use out of that are not already mentioned:

Crock Pot

Nice cutting boards

Quisinart Mini-Prep food chopper (there are SO many times that I only need to chop a little bit of food, and it's impractical to keep on hauling out my food processor)

Flannel or afgan-style throw blankets

NICE pillows for the bed

Sharp Knives!! Nothing worse than trying to cut anything with a dull knive!

Bathroom Towels, I almost forgot towels. All of ours are old and scratchy and mismatched. GRR

Pyrex glass measuring cups in 1 cup, 2 cup, and 4 cup size. They can be used in the microwave to heat water or milk as well as for measuring liquids
Measuring cups
Measuring spoons (can you tell I like to bake?)
Good cookie sheets
9-inch square baking pan
9x13" baking dish, either glass or good aluminum one

- curtains/curtain rods
- spice rack
- coasters
- coffee table/end tables
- lamps
- good cutlery
- bar ware
- set of wine glasses

Ok...

* I lovelovelove my OXO locking tongs. After trying out many types of tongs in my kitchen, I've found these to be indispensable. We have a pair of the regular 9" SS, a pair of the 9" w/ the nylon heads (for use on non-stick skillets), and a pair of the 16" SS tongs for BBQing.

* My stick blender/chopper (this isn't the one I registered for but it's similar to the one we got at Costco and use every day), this thing is great for making smoothies or chopping up stuff. We even used it to grind coffee when our coffee grinder died!

* complete set of Pyrex bakeware! OMG, this stuff will last forever, and can go from oven to table to refrigerator. It's the ultimate kitchen workhorse!

* high-quality set of nylon cooking tools, the kind that doesn't warp at high heats or absorb the color of your food

* toaster oven, we use ours for toasting bread, broiling chicken or steak, and baking Thanksgiving stuffing, among other things

* a two burner griddle pan, for making pancakes, quesadillas, burgers...

* good-quality knives w/ non-slip handle, and a sharpening steel so you can keep the knives very sharp

well, unless you're not into that... I did NOT want silver, for me it's not worth the care required. We got really nice stainless flatware instead, DH picked it out (as it turns out, it can't go in the dishwasher and DH says if he'd known that, he would've picked something different). And we registered for everyday china and crystal, instead of the super-expensive stuff. I think sometimes people feel like they *have to* register for certain stuff but if it doesn't match your lifestyle (what you see yourself doing over the course of your marriage) then don't put it on your registry. I'd rather see a wheelbarrow on someone's registry, if I know they're big into gardening!

Now, if you're really into the fancy stuff, by all means you should put it on there! And register for those fabric storage thingies too, if you don't have a display cabinet to put your china in.

I am not getting married but I lucked out and my mother gave me her Lenox china that she got when she was getting married. They still make the setting too. The china is brand new. She never used it

My aunt and uncle didn't want china but people were all concerned when they didn't see it on the list so they ended up picking out china and then had the clerk list it as already purchased. People saw the china on there but that they didn't need any more so they picked something else. The few pieces they did get, they could exchange for something they wanted.

The only thing I'd add is not to be afraid to put on the list what you really need... I've been living on my own for 10 yrs and I don't need a lot of the things you would normally need (I know a lot of you must be in similar circumstances)

I've registered for nice new bedding and crockery, but I've also registered for some beautiful picture frames to display the wedding photos (when I get them!) some mirrors for the rooms that don't have them yet and a few lovely lamps.

They also say that you should have twice as many items as guests so that everyone has a choice. And you should register for some huge items that you think noone will buy you because you never know if your friends or your co-workers will put their money together to get something large. (Our big item is a new bed! I doubt we'll get it but we really need it so if we don't we'll buy it anyway

)

Thanks to DH, we were doing pretty well with kitchen stuff, and we didn't want anything for the bathroom (we were about to start looking for an apartment, and since we can't change the bathroom tile to mtch what we have, we decided to wait, then buy things to go with the bathroom. Also, no fine china or silver - we didn't have the room/need for it just yet.

We did register for:

2 sets of bed linens
Comforter
everyday china
pitcher, salt/pepper shaker, etc. to go with said china.
everyday cutlery

Rotisserie!!- these things are great.

You can make anything from hamburgers to a Thanksgiving turkey on one of these and it is healthier for you because all the fat drips off. Yum, now i want chicken

Bath Towels- you can never have to many

Stand mixer- I love mine!! Enough said

a set of nice sheets

Ummmmmmm,

that's all I can think of for now!

When I registered, I included *three* sets of bed sheets - one for the bed, one in the closet, and one in the wash. I'm able to keep up on my goal of changing the sheets once a week (I'm a sweater when I sleep) without scrambling to get the sheets washed in a certain timeframe, and all three sets still look new, even after having them for over four years.

Oh - we didn't register for one, but we uses ours all the time - a George Foreman grill. If there are only two of you, the smallest one is great for two people and it hardly takes up any space in the cabinet.

Here are other items that I already had, but I would have registered for them if I didn't already have them (forgive me if I post any repeats):

Four-slice toaster
GOOD quality blender (not a cheapy $20 one)
Pancake griddle
Waffle iron
