Default Seating Chart or No Seating Chart?

Dear Lisa,

My future daughter-in-law began a seating chart for their sit-down dinner reception of 150 guests. After consulting with the reception site, she's decided against it. I know, by the preliminary seating chart, that without a seating chart, not only families will be seperated, but some couples may have to sit at different tables as well.

I have a good relationship with her, but do not want to "make waves" this week before the wedding. It's their wedding, and have been supportive of all their decsions, but I really feel like this is a disaster waiting to happen.

Default The Seating Chart Dilemma

Hi,

I can understand how you'd like the wedding to go as smoothly as possible - and that the idea of having no seating chart is a bit unsettling for you. People have different comfort levels with planning details. For whatever reason, she decided to let it go and let it all sort itself out.

I've been to a few weddings where there was no seating chart and people seemed to make it work. I think people are usually pretty accomodating and flexible and would try hard to assist a family / couple who might find themselves being separated - even if it means squeezing in an extra chair at the table.

My advice to you would be to let it go - it sounds like you've done a good job of being supportive up to now. It will likely all work out - as things usually do. There's probably no sense in adding your anxiety about it into the mix for her.

Enjoy the wedding!

Lisa
