Default My Wedding Ring Advice

I work for an insurance company (not listing which one since THIS IS NOT AN ADVERISMENT), but I get alot of calls from people who lost diamonds out of there rings, left it sitting somewhere and lost it, stolen out of gym bags, etc...

This is not covered under a regualar home owners/ renters policy, and usually if your ring is worth over $1500.00, the policy will only cover up to that amount for losses that are covered.

My advise is that you have your e-ring and wedding ring covered aditionally under under your homeowners/ rental policy(they are generally only about $5.00 - $10.00 more a month depending on the value of the ring).

I know it's not earth shattering news, but I didn't know about it prior to my current job, so I though I would let others know that it is available, if they didn't already know.

Definitely good advice, though I know getting my ring appraised freaked me out because I didn't realize how much it was worth, and now I'm a bit worried to be carrying around thousands of dollars on my finger.

At the moment it's on my parents' policy, but it'll go onto ours when we move into our place next month.

It's also a good idea to mention this to your DF BEFORE he buys the ring - most jewelers will give you an "insurance appraisal" when you purchase the ring, thus saving you the hassle of having to get it done later. And an insurance appraisal will usually be higher than a standard appraisal, no matter where you get it done.

With our homeowners policy, it doesn't cost us anything "extra" to have the ring covered, as it's included in the estimate of the value of our "stuff"... we pay $x for $xx amount of "stuff" coverage. I guess maybe it we had more expensive "stuff" it would cost us more to add protection up to that dollar amount, lol, but as it is we're at the lowest level. However, the ring does have to be SPECIFICALLY mentioned in the policy, with the appraisal to back it up. Otherwise the insurance company would use their own formula to estimate the value (sight unseen) after it disappeared.
