Default wedding veil.. what it symbolizes?

hello everyone!

Just wanted to have a collection of ideas of the meaning of wedding veils and why brides wear it. What is your belief to that?

Interesting question. To me, my veil symbolizes a pretty thing to wear in my hair. However, I believe traditionally it was actually the symbol of virginity, especially with the blusher. I don't know if that was just something my grandmother told me as small child, but that's what I grew up understanding.

I always heard it originated back when arranged marriages were still common and the bride and groom didn't meet until the wedding, they would cover the brides face so neither the bride nor groom could see each other, and potentially run away, until they were married.

I always thought it was a kinda funny tradition story. I agree with Ciarrai, for me it was just something pretty to wear in my hair.

I always thought (or probably read somewhere) that it was too keep the spirits from seeing the bride because it could be bad luck, kind of like the whole evil eye thing.
