Default Wedding photographer?

Getting married this year and i wanted to get a professional wedding photographer - but finace was recommended a photographer from a university that takes photographs for documentaries and books. She has only done a couple of weddings. Did not get to see all her work, but i was not impressed. Would you go ahead with this lady, or go for a professional that is only involved in wedding photography.Fiance said that he does not like photographers that boss people around and tell them what to do.I think that you do need a professional to tell you how to pose and they know what looks good. She is not a student. She works at a university.

Thanks for your note. Photographing weddings is the most technically challenging aspects of photography. It's not something you do once or twice and get the hang of. Churches and reception halls are very difficult to light properly and require professional equipment in order to pull anything useable out. Outside wedding requires an extensive knowledge of lighting and how to mix it properly. If photos are important to you and you want to make sure you have a nice selection of great photos, then hire a pro who does this every weekend and will take good care of you. Your fiance is thinking old school, bossy jerk photographer. The field has completely shifted in the past five years to photographers who use photojournalist techniques to become flies on walls and remain unobtrusive. Start looking online for photographers near you and find someone who may be newer to the field, but has at least 50 weddings under their belt and great portfolios from at least a dozen of them. Ditch the wanna be... they aren't a pro and you don't need to be their guinea pig.

That is really such a useful information. I think people know it through this forum. And This is the best way to spread out the information.
