Hi all, this question may make me sound clueless but i actually am clueless about this topic: when i purchased my garter, it came with the tossing garter, i know that my FH will take the garter off and toss the "tossing garter" but do i wear both the tossing garter and the "fancy" garter???
I am very confused on this topic please help me in answering this question.

What exactly is the reason for the garter? I never understood that...

A long time ago in Europe (possibly England, I think) it was good luck to get a piece of the brides clothing, so people would literally tear her clothes off. Really, I'm not making this up. The garter came from this -- someone could get a piece of the brides clothing without having to assault her.
The fancy garter is to keep as a memento. It is placed on the leg first, above the tossing garter.

I wore both; the "keep" garter was higher up on the thigh than the "toss" garter.
My garter was my "something blue."

I have always seen the toss garter on the bride, and I know most of my friends wear both for the entire day, and like Feb said, it's usually lower than the "keep" garter.
I guess you could probably go & put it on before the garter toss, but that seems not worth the time or energy.

It depends on the style of the gown. If you wear a sheath or a gown made of a soft, clingy fabric such as chiffon, the garter will show through the dress (bulge, not show the color). In that case, the bride needs to put it on just before the garter toss.
