Default Table Linens

Anyone else having, or had, a DIY kind of reception....here's my dilemma

The hall I'm having my reception in doesn't supply table linens, so of course, I'm on the hunt for them, but they are so expensive. I just can't see myself spending that kind of money on "TABLECLOTHS", that I may not even own after it's all said and done. Someone suggested using good linens on the major tables i.e. Head, Cake, Food, etc. and using paper/plastic on the others. So I'm thinking...won't that be cheesy for a nice reception, but what are my other options??? I need help bad with this one

.....so what's the verdict

Definitely on the cheesy side to go plastic or paper. Did you check out renting? I've rented before for a very reasonable price. Under $10.00 each for white linen.

Plastic/paper aren't the way to go. Call your local linen place and inquire about renting some. Luckily, the man who runs the linen place where I got married is friends with my Mom, so we got all table cloths and napkins for free.

Yeah, I knew that idea would be cheesy when I heard it.....

I've checked some rental places and I haven't found anything under $20 a piece (and that's just for solids), and with 20 plus tables, I'm not going to spend under $500 going that route. SO, my search continues. If anyone knows of an inexpensive place that ships nationally/internationally, please let me know. Thanks ladies

....Margie~ you were truly blessed with that one. I didn't realize how big of an expense it could be, and with us using a hall that ALWAYS has some kind of event happening, you would think they would've invested in linens by now

How about making them?
Or maybe your church has some that they use for special occasions that they would lend you?

Are you in Canada or the US?

Okay, this may be way off... I've never tried nor know anyone who has, but what about buying cheap white (or colored) sheets? You can probably buy them for 2 or 3 in a pack and of course you can always use them. Or, I would expand on what Catina suggested and buy the material. Just have someone sew a hem around the bottom. It wouldn't have to be fancy material or a fancy sewing job??

Sheets are a good idea. Or go to your local fabric store and look around. Maybe you can find a nice fabric there that even matches your wedding colors. All you'll ahve to do it make a clean edge on it... get a bunch of girls w/ sewing machines together and go to town! LOL

Don't forget eBay, and also places that sell institutional linens. Seconds are usually relatively inexpensive, and you can't find the fault.

Are you a member of a store like Sam's Club or Cosco? I looked online at Sam's Club (see below) and they had white linens.

You might also try a restaurant supply store. Like Catina asked, are you in the US or Canada? There are lots of rental stores out here near the West Coast that are pretty reasonable. Also, our church has linens that they use for events, and I have borrowed table cloths from them in the past. You might look into that, or even ask friends to inquire about that at their churches.

I'm in the US on the East Coast.....

HeatherR~ sheets are a really good idea. I would have NEVER thought of that, and really good sheets almost look like table cloths...hmmmmmm

Wynelle~ what's institutional linens???

Lisa Marie~ I personally don't have a membership to either one, but I know people who do. That's another option I'll check into.

LADIES~ this is GREAT feedback and I'm so glad I asked the question. I've always been taught, the only stupid , is an unasked one. I'll check out some fabric stores, but me and my girls are NO good at that type of stuff, BUT I just happen to know a seamstress. And, my church does have some and I guess I could use what they have and just concentrate on getting the rest of them. I really appreciate this ladies, I feel so much better now

OH, Just~ would you happen to have any names for the places on your end...although I'm guessing shipping costs would be outrageous to deliver on this side of the country, right?

Those prices from Sam's club are great!! I don't think you could get much cheaper than that, unless you borrowed them from someone! If you're not a member, it would probably be worth joining at those prices!

Yes, shipping costs would kill the price; those linens can be kind of heavy! And I don't think they ship anyway; I was just thinking if you lived in California or something, but Washington DC is way too far...oh well. I think the Sam's Club idea is great!

Institutional linens are those made for hotels, hospitals, dining facilities, etc. Very basic, but not horribly expensive. Also have towels, sheets, etc.
