Spotlight or initials?

I wanted to have a spotlight for the first dances. Would that have any effect (neg or pos) on the photos? It crossed my mind that maybe I would rather have our monogram in lights on the dance floor but I am afraid the light and shadow may look funny? The upside is that it would be there all night. I am very pale and FH is very dark skinned if that makes much difference in your answers.

I asked my photographer about it. He has a lot of experience with weddings, but I am thinking not with this. He said if the spotlight is messing up the pics he will have them turn it off.

Hi Rosie, I did answer this a few weeks ago... if your photographer thinks it's no problem, then by all means go for it... as he pointed out, if he doesn't like it, he can always have the dj or hall turn it off. There was not problem at a wedding I shot that had the names in a heart shining down on them - no strange dappling or anything. There's an example at www.marcicurtis.com/ravereviews.html.
