Default MOH Speech Advice

SOoo I'm the maid of honor for my best friend, Jen, whose wedding is this coming July. She wants me to give a speech...that's a big YIKES for me. I hate talking in front of people...and at a wedding of 200+ I'm freaking out about the idea. But gotta suck it up right?

Problem, since I don't like to talk in front of people, I have no clue what to say. I know people say to talk about a story that relates you and the bride yada yada yada...but I unno I feel like its about them and not us...but anyways...I would LOVE any suggestions...and advice for how to handle my nerves haha

Thanks girls!

I don't have good ideas for a speech, because honestly, I've never been to a wedding where one of the female attendants said anything. But one thing you might ask her, is if you could give a toast at the rehearsal dinner instead of the wedding. It's likely to be smaller and more casual, and might be less scary. I'm terrified of speaking in public...I'm not sure I could do it.

How long have you known her?

A couple years ago, DH was the best man at his best friend's wedding and he gave an awesome speech. He grew up with the groom (since they were 5) so he wove together a "love story" of what love was like when they were little, tying it together to what love is now for him (with the bride). It sounds bad like that, but it kind of went like this...

I've known ________ since we were both 5 years old, and I've seen him go through a lot of different kinds of love. (long pause...)

When we were 5 years old, love for ______ was....(teenage mutant ninja turtles)

When we were 10 years old, love for ______ was...

When we were 15 years old, love for ______ was....

When we were 21, love for _______ was....

Now, love for ______ is ......

I thought it was really cute, because it spoke of their history together and their friendship but tied the bride and groom together in the end.

Let me know if you need more details, I don't know if I explained it very clearly.
