Lighthearted / Funny Vows
Hi Everyone,
I was looking through a book of wedding vows with one of my girls and saw this. I thought it was hilarious and just couldnt help but see if anyone else had any experience with funny or lighthearted vows.
This is just an excerpt to give you an idea (yes its Dr. Seuss)
Pastor: Will you love her when you're fit,
And also when you're feeling sick?
Groom: Yes, I'll love her when we're fit,
And when we're hurt, and when we're sick,
And I will love her when we're rich
And I will love her in a ditch
And I will love through good and bad,
And I will love when glad or sad,
And I will have, and I will hold
Ten years from now a thousandfold,
Yes, I will love for my whole life
This lovely woman as my wife!
Pastor: Will you love with all your heart?
Will you love till death you part?
Groom: Yes, I'll love with all my heart
From now until death do us part,
And I will love her when we're rich,
And when we're broke and in a ditch,
And when we're fit, and when we're sick,
(Oh, CAN'T we get this finished quick?)
And I will love through good and bad,
And I will love when glad or sad,
And I will have, and I will hold,
And if I might now be so bold,
I'll love her my entire life,
Yes, I WILL take her as my wife!

My take is that it's cute as an email or a card, but not for an actual wedding ceremony. You don't have to be super formal or religious or whatever--definitely personalize them if that's your thing and your service allows for it, but it is a serious event and I think should be treated with respect. Dr. Seuss is fine for the toasts, but at the ceremony--you're standing up in front of your friends and family, and God if that's your belief, and promising to love and respect this person and be a partner to them for the rest of your life. I don't think Dr. Suess quite encompasses that.

I think it is cute. I probably won't make it through saying them without busting out laughing though. I do like the idea of writting light-hearted vows I've never heard anyone doing it. I think I'll run this one by my h2b, but I won't steal Dr. Seuss from you LOL.

LOL, I think that is actually really, really cute! I like that it incorporates the important, serious part of wedding vows, just in a Seussical way...but I could have NEVER gotten my husband to memorize or recite it!

I think this would be something really cute for the right couple...I personally wouldn't do it for mine but it's a cute idea!
