Default Spotlight?

Hi,

I am new to these forums and having a reception in a hotel ballroom May 30, 2009. I am thinking of having a spotlight during the first dances. Do you think this will have a positive or negative effect on our photos? (It may be relevant to know he is very dark-skinned and I am very white).

Thanks!
Rosey

Thanks for asking. This is a tough one. It will certainly be a dramatic lighting effect, that's for sure. Any decent professional photographer should be able to capture this without much of a problem. I'm not sure how they'll have a spotlight coming from above in a hotel ballroom (unless it has a balcony). If it is from above, there won't be a problem, but if it's coming from the side, that's tougher because a very strong light will be coming from one direction and the photographer will be stuck shooting from one angle. The best advice I can give is to contact your photographer and run it past her (or him) to see what her (or his) concerns might be.
