Default Message in a Bottle

I am REALLY excited about doing message in a bottle invitations!!!

We will DIY on these too as we will most items for our wedding
(besides it gives us an excuse to drink beer=bottle and eat pringles=container to mail it all in)

These are links so you have a general idea

http://www.ladyslippergardens.com/bottle.htm
http://www.messageinabottle.50megs.c...hureshelf2.htm

Our idea is to have a scroll type invitation that we will tie and have the tie hang out of bottle, then plug with a cork and add a cute charm to the tie.

Our RSVP/envelope and any other info will be in the mailing container.

They now have those plastic beer bottles so we will drink those as plastic is much cheaper to mail 60cents vs glass $2^

We are going to make a label that will cover the whole pringles container with address.

I like these choices for invitations

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...661284676&rd=1
&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1

with these as our Save the date

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

BUT I am kinda torn. Our wedding will be outside on the beach, very simple. Our reception will be indoors and be more classy than these imply. However it is ALL close family and friends... less than 60 people AND we don't care if everyone wears jeans and hawiian shirts (which is everyday attire for my 3 brothers and my Dad)

Am I asking for trouble by not having more formal paper? Are they going to clash with the overall image of our day?

Thumbs up

That is so cool!!! I've never heard of that before. And, it goes so well with your theme and your bottle of wine gifts.

I think that as long as you don't mind what people wear, the (in)formality of the invite is fine. The reason most people worry about it is so that they will not have a bunch of under or over dressed guests.

Those are going to turn out so cute! I love that idea and it will go so well with your theme. I think that it will give it the right feel if you don't mind what they show up dressed in. Make it what you want it to be. If you want a little more formality, make the font or the wording formal. Put little touches like that on it and since it is a small affair, spread the word or have someone else spread the word on the level of formality.

I love the invitiations!

Breezy- AWESOME! And kudos on the creative bottling and containers!!!!

I really like the 3rd one- to me a treasure map inside a bottle is a great combo!

:squealing: I LOVE that! I think as long as you don't care how beach bum casual people go, the last invites are perfect. I'm excited about your wedding pics already, breezy!

I think if you want to let people know that it will be slightly formal (as events go) you should do the 2nd one. If you really don't care about that and want to stick with the overall theme, I'd go with the 3rd.

Default I saw these and it reminded me of you!

I know you're DIY, but I saw these and thought of you.

They're from hansonellis.com. I think they're $3 or something like that.
ETA: FYI, they sell just the filler by the pound, too.

That sounds like such a fun idea! I might steal that one!

I think people would LOVE those invites. I wouldn't necessarily think it's informal, as you're worried about. I think people would think of it as pretty elaborate for an invite--definitely not really informal.

Here's a REALLY good price on the bottles/mailing boxes:

https://www648.ssldomain.com/sandart...n%20a%20Bottle

I think I'm totally going to steal your idea, Breezy! It'll be a fun way to invite people to our reception after our destination wedding. I already have some cream-colored linen paper with scalloped edges. Dave got it for me thinking it might work for a wedding invite--but it doesn't work alone, because it's paper, not cardstock. But it would be perfect to use in a message in a bottle. Now that I see how cheaply I could purchase the bottles/boxes, it would be so simple to just buy some playsand, small shells, fake rings to roll the scroll up into. Cool idea!

MTGH, That site is one I was thinking of (since they do have such good prices) if we decide to purchase the bottles.

That's great that you have paper already... I know I have seen were people have burned an edge to give it a fun old look.

Also I have seen were people say to hand deliver the bottles (can have family do this too) to save on the postage and add to the fun of it!

Steal away, I hope you have fun. Besides then I can steal more ideas from you. You'll have yours done 1st. (and you can give me the total cost per each one )

I'm feeling pretty inspired to do this, now that I see how affordable and all-around frigging awesome it is - and we're having a beach ceremony. I'd seen it back when I was planning the first time and thought it would be too much $$, but I don't think we need that many, and it's very much my style. I love the filler CW posted too.

LOL! Ok, it's settled then, we'll all steal/share ideas and pass on cost-savings tips! I thought the same thing--that it would be cool but . Now that I realize it's feasibly more reasonable than having invites made or even some of the nicer DIY printables, it's like how can you pass up a cool idea like this for a beach wedding!?

OK I just envisioned my 85-year-old grandmother trying to get the note out of the bottle. So I'm planning to use raffia to tie around the invite, leaving a long tail to come out of the bottle. I'll affix some charm or tag to that.

Maybe I'll just create one "normal" one for her LOL. I think she'd be soooo confused at that, even wondering why someone would mail her something like that, it would just throw her off for weeks.

Yeah, I am planning on having a tie with a long string too. I really don't want everyone so frustrated they never get it out and thus don't show up.

Good point. You also don't want to end up having people spill sand all over the place trying to get the invite out! They'll give you a crappy gift to get you back! Ok, just kidding about the crappy gift! I wouldn't want to get sand all over people's houses. So, that's a good idea to have the raffia coming out the top! Man, we are going to PERFECT the message in a bottle invite with this meeting of the minds!
