Wine holder centerpieces
I didn't want to hijack Tinkerbells thread so started another one
Alan and I are thinking we will make something similiar to this for part of our centerpieces
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...keTra ck=true
In answer to the questions posted on the "need opinions/ideas for center peice" thread
They don't go with our colors (lt blue, navy blue and silver---beach wedding) BUT I am not paying that much for shipping!! *lol* If she had listed them for $20 with $6 shipping I would feel better about the seller... but even so we can do them for less and it will give Alan something to contribute to our wedding!
The glasses would be our favors (we might include a bottle of wine for each couple too) and we would probable give the holders to our parents and grandparents (3 sets of grandparents on my side plus both our folks) and keep one for ourselves (of course)
We think we will whitewash the wood and put some sort of a silver and blue patter (swirls?) on them... anyone have ideas? The other idea is to perhaps do a watercolor type painting with mostly blue on the bottom half and sunsetty colors on the top and then some generic M birds. I am really going to have to play around with paint!
We have not decided if we are going to buy the glasses pre-made or do them ourselves. I really just want a simple design.
Even though we are planning to get married on the beach we are not doing a beach/nautical theme. I really want to keep things simple and elegant.
Thinking perhaps having them done with silver foil in a double heart.... I think I could faux engrave them with this too.

I think you could just whitewash the wood and that would be very elegant and beachy. You could tie in the silver and blue through the place settings.
It sounds like it's going to be really beautiful.

Are you going to have it done with wine or champagne glasses?
It looks really nice, but who gets the holder afterward? If there are two couples, and each gets one glass, who gets the holder?
Oh... I went back and reread. You plan to make these??

Here you go...
I think a spiral swirl of blue glass paint starting at the stem and going half way up the full part of the glass would be more than enough on the glasses and hopefully not *too* time consuming... either that or the silver hearts you mentioned. I'd not do the sunset design simply because I think it would take too long!

I think we will do wine glasses... but I suppose that depends on what I find a bargin on since that isn't something I am hung up on
I know, we/I am a true DIYer. I think they will be easy. Basically an octegonal piece of wood with slits cut into them.

I just read the actual eBay advertisements, and it appears that this is one of those sellers who have a cheap asking price and a huge shipping price. eBay makes it's money by getting a certain fee based on the selling price. So some sellers charge a tiny selling price and a high shipping rate. It robs eBay. The actual piece of wood (which indeed you can probably make fairly easily) and four glasses can be shipped for a lot less than $24.00.
You can order the Libby glasses directly from the Libby site or buy them from a resturant supply house, then paint them in that nice silver/blue swirl Ann talked about. You can get the wood pieces from HobbyLobby or Michaels.

Breezy...
I don't know if this is something you are interested in....but we are giving personalized wine bottles as thank you gifts to several people who are helping us along the way...I found a place where you can get JUST THE LABELS...they have lots of selection and were decently priced. I was really happy with them...if you are interested in the labels, let me know.

Will the guests be USING the glasses and wine during the wedding or it's "for show only"? I think it looks pretty, but in the matter of moments people will probably tear it apart and break into the wine and your centerpiece will be in shambles.
