Guide to Platinum Engagement Ring
Given that many people have minimal or no knowledge about Platinum I decided to share this thread. The reason many people don't know as much about Platinum is because of the fact that it is such a rare metal. Platinum is 30 times more rare than gold, which means that one will be getting or giving something exceptional that not everyone can possess. The physical density of platinum gives it substance and a luxurious weight that denotes quality.
In fact, it is 90-95% pure, whereas 18k gold is about 75% pure.Platinum’s purity makes it hypoallergenic, meaning it minimizes the possibility of an allergic response and is ideal for someone with sensitive skin. Platinum is know for it's non-tarnish qualities, meaning it will retain its brilliant white luster many years down the line.
Platinum jewelry is the perfect choice for a lifetime of everyday wear as it loses little metal over time. Studies have shown that 81% of women want a platinum ring (American Wedding Study).

Is it true that it scrathes easily?

I prefer yellow gold too, and while I like silver, I don't think it's worth paying extra money for white gold or plat.
I'm just waiting for the link to this amazing new place to buy platinum jewelry that I'm sure will miraculously be posted soon.

No doubt. Do you think it will be a 'brand new' member or the OP?

The question is how much metal will a ring lose to scratching and denting? The answer is that All metals scratch, but with gold that scratch actually removes a sliver of metal. With platinum , scratching just ripples the surface. The displaced metal can be moved back into place with polishing. Essentially, Platinum is more pure than gold, hence the material is more durable and everlasting.

Mine will be white gold, because I prefer the way it looks. Yellow gold doesn't look good with my skin tone (ice white), and platinum is just too expensive for us right now.

We just ordered mine, it is white gold, I LOVE white gold, I'm not really a big fan of yellow, and I'm allergic to anything other than gold.
I love saying Palladium though, it's silly, I know, I just think it's a fun word.
