Hi Stella,
First of all, I have to say that the company I own is one that handles both the travel and wedding planning. We have fees in place because of the style of wedding planning that takes place on St Kitts. Personally I know our company is not that expensive compared to the services that you get. That is where you need to look when reviewing the fees. What are the costs of calling down there to confirm? Taking the time out to call down there? Your time planning the wedding with different services? Making sure that you have all angles taken care of? When items have to be taken care of? Organization?
With St Kitts there is not an all inclusive where you just talk to one person. You might have a florist, photographer, front desk manager, special event department, food and beverage people. Now if you have someone do that all for one where you have only one email, one toll free, basically one contact, isn't that better for your piece of mind. Planning a wedding outside of the United States, this is truly a consideration that you should look into to make everything run smoothly. Plus they might be able to advise you of information on how the various resorts at that destination work because of past experience. That is the best way to go. If there are problems with their program then you don't want to find out about them when you get down there.
So don't look at the extra costs to be a hindrance, instead look at what you are paying for. Someone to help you, give you advice and basically act as your advocate. That is a piece of mind that is worth the cost!
As for your pastor, that is a tricky situation because legally if you get married outside of the United States you are suppose to have a legal wedding. Your pastor will not be recognize as a legal person in St Kitts, so your service would not be legal in the Federal Goverment's eye. Basically that means you will have to go to the court house either before or after the wedding to become legal. What you could do is have a local St Kitt's judge or legal wedding official start the service, do the lead requirements, then just flow into your pastor taking over the wedding.
As for the hotel, I have to be honest. The resorts down there are based on more of the very budget moderate side. There is only one resort that has what we American's know as a resort. The others you could have a questionable room stay.
I hope this helps! Let me know if I can help you further.
Take care,
Lindsay
