Default Asking him to marry you?

I promise that this question is not for me.

My best friend is a guy, and his girlfriend has been thinking about asking him to marry her. I don't like the idea for him because he's more of the chivalrous old school type who would rather ask her for her hand instead of vice versa.

However, I came to the lovely ladies of Pash to ask what your thoughts are on asking him to marry you instead of the other way around.

I think that's your answer. For some couples, I guess it's fine. I wouldn't ever propose, but others might, and as long as everyone's on board, then great. But if your friend is "old school" then I would imagine getting to plan the proposal, pick the ring, etc. IS important to him and he should get to do that-and frankly, his girlfriend should probably know him well enough to know he'd prefer the honor...

I agree with the previous poster. I wouldn't ever propose, either; however, it works for some people. I guess when I think of the female proposing, I think of that episode of Gilmore Girls where Lorelai proposed to Luke. He was ridiculed for several episodes by people in town... "didn't SHE propose to HIM!?," etc. I think it can be very embarassing (I know that sounds bad), depending on the guy.
