Default Videographer

Has anyone ever had one? I got a demo cd from one at the bridal fair last weekend, and it's so neat! I'm a sucker for pictures anyway, and this is just the next level. Unfortunately, the cheapest package is $1000. Not really bad, I just don't have it.
If you have/did have one, what was your experience? Did you like the final outcome? What do you think the turnout would be if I were to find a visual communications student and had them do it? (I'm thinking about finding a student photographer too, so one will be at the reception.)

We didn't get a videographer and we used an excellent photographer.

You could save that money and simply ask a friend to video during the ceremony and/or reception. I wouldn't ask for anything perfect or professional, just you and your friends and family having fun here and there.

I tried looking for a student photographer but I just didn't want to leave something so important in an "amateur's" hand. There is no way to get that day back once it's done so it's worth the money for a pro pho.

I have thought about seeing if I could find a student videographer and what there prices are. Just not sure yet! I also thought about taken my all my pictures and what my family video to a place to have them put on a CD. Just not sure if I want to spend that much money on a videographer when I have spent so much on a photographer.

I called the school around the area of the wedding, looking for a student. One of the schools told me that they donot do that and would not give any names. I had another school give me a name of former student that had his own business, but i was not impressed with his work. All I can tell you is to contact the school in your area to see if they can help you out. Good Luck!

I had a videographer for my wedding. And, I'm glad I did. I went with the lowest priced package (no editing) and just added an hour and a half of "time" so that he would be there through the entire reception. I love that we have the speaches and official dances on video. It gives more life to the event.

Since there was no editing done to the video, I could have gotten almost as good quality by having a family member or friend do it. But, I decided to pay a pro so that I wouldn't inconvenience a guest with the request.

I emailed A local College here and he said he would ask his students and if any one was interested he would pass my info to them. So we will see! We have a few others colleges in the area but I'm not sure they have that kind of program there. Thanks ladies.

I didn't have one, but I kinda wish I did. I just couldn't afford one and I knew if I really wanted one mom would have hired one, but I knew it was an expense she couldn't afford either... I say if you can get one, get one!

I had my uncle do it. He's really good. I would see if a friend would do it for you!! That way you could save $ cuz a professional can get expensive!

We hadn't talked about that yet and then we went to Thanksgiving at his aunt and uncle's house. They were talking wedding stuff and decided to pull out his aunt and uncle's wedding video. We then spent the entire time laughing.

A little while later the subject of getting our stuff on video came up and FH and I both brought up Thanksgiving and decided photographs would be plenty. We didn't want some Thanksgiving years down the road to be the year they pull out our tape and laugh.

We've decided against is for now, but it does still cross my mind...

I wanted a really great photographer and couldn't really afford both but he offers a DVD of still shots set in chronological so that they show the story of the day and they're set to music. I saw a few samples and they were really beautiful...

One of my friends did have a videographer at hers and she said it was great to see all the things she was either too busy to see or just couldn't remember because there was so much going on that day.

That's the only reason I think about it... But then are you really going to watch it again? How narcissistic would you have to be to sit and watch it over and over again!!!

Red face Speaking of dodgy videos...

Wembley you just reminded me... It's been 10yrs now since Mo's twin sister got married and he brought down the dvd for a laugh. Every single time you see me in it I'm chewing gum The problem with that is that his family had only just met me and there I am in the background of all these shots chewing away! We were pissing ourselves when we saw that again! Nice first impression!

Heather, I already have a pro photographer for the ceremony, he just doesn't do the reception. So I figure the student photographer could do more of a photojournalistic style. I also thought of having the student tape the ceremony and then do pictures at the reception. I dunno.
As far as watching it repeatedly....I probably would once in awhile, or ate least on special occasions. Lol, but it would be nice to have, just because.
If all else fails, I will just have one of the BM's bf video it, and I can always have it edited later. Or if things keep going like they are at work, I'll end up working someplace else making a ton more and will be able to afford the pros to do it.

We kind of had a videographer. Explanation: My DJ was my step-mothers brother who was trying to get his DJing business off the ground. He said he would DJ our wedding for free if we allowed him to bring a videographer to tape him for commercials. I agreed (we never even noticed that he was there). Later, that videographer sent us complete footage of our reception and his business card
