Top of Cake
As traditions says...keep the top of your cake and eat it on your 1-yr anniversary.
Did any of you do this? My MIL tookours home with her but I seriously doubt I will eat it in a year. I wanted to eat it at the wedding but DH was firm about wanting to save it.

Jennifer
We kept ours and ate it at our anniversary party held the sunday after our anniversary. It was still yummy though the frosting was melting off! LOL

Mine is currently in my parents' freezer. Our freezer is tiny. And, my parents have a freezer the size of a large fridge (along with their regular fridge/freezer combo unit). We are planning to try to eat it. We'll see how it goes.

DH's aunt froze ours. The cake itself was okay, but the fondant felt rubbery.

Just wondering...Where does this tradition come from? And what does it mean?

I kept mine from my first marriage. My Mom and I actually thawed it and ate it the day my divorce was final! It was just as good as the day of the wedding.

I have no idea where the tradition originates.
How do you defrost it? Or thaw it?

We're amongst those who kept it.
My mom took it home and wrapped it up a million times over (to prevent freezer burn). We took it out of the freezer like a day or 2 before our anniversary to let it thaw. It was soooooooooooo good! I didn't get any at the wedding reception, but heard everyone raving about it after. I was glad we saved it. It tasted wonderfully.

We have ours frozen at my MILs. I really didn't care to keep it, but one of my aunts insisted and saw to it that it was saved! It was really, really good though so I hope its still good in 6 months!

I didn't do this. We ate the top layer a few days after the wedding (when we were opening presents).
My cousin and her husband did this. They bought the special cake preserving box and everything. She said that the cake was gross.

Speaking of my cake...here is a picture. My sincere apologies if it is too big...I have clue how to adjust things.

It's lovely Jen! Nice choice
On the size... are you posting the pics through photobucket? If you are all you have to do is:
Once you've loaded the photo into photobucket go to where the small image of it is.
Above that are the boxes MOVE EDIT & DELETE
Click EDIT
That'll take you to another page.
If you scroll down a little you'll get to resize image then 75% 50% 25% click one of those then the resize button.
I normally click 75% first and see if it's still too big...
It has a great big warning about not being able to redo it but that doesn't matter at all because you'll still have the original size stored in your pc so if you make it too small you can load it up again.
Hope this helps.

Thank you! Would you believe:
1. I only paid $400 for it
and
2. When I saw it I thought "That is not what I ordered!" It just didn't look exactly like the picture I showed them so I was annoyed, but I love it anyway.

I got those little candles on the Target clearance. I have like 36 of them of so, they are battery operated. Now I just have to figure out what to do with them now. I used a few around the tub the other night, that was great. LOL

It's really lovely though I can understand being upset about not getting what you asked for... It's just one of those things you have to choose in advance but who knows if they'll really get it right?
BTW have you seen the worlds worst wedding cake? I'll try & find the link...
ETA: Found it: I nearly peed myself from laughing so much when I first saw this!

Moreno didn't believe it, but you can see the people in the background at the reception...

I saw it and was dissappointed so I dragged my brutally honest MOH up to see it and she loved it. So I felt better.
I wanna see the picture of the worst cake!
