Marriage License
How long did it take for you to get your marriage license back? I need to change my last name on all of my stuff but I can't until I get the proof that it has changed. It's pretty anoying when people write you a check with your new name but your bank won't cash it! Grrr...

I had to actually go to the marriage license office and get a copy... they didn't send it automatically.

We got ours right back. We showed it to the county clerk, she put some info in the computer and handed it back to us. I do sometimes wonder about our county's system of documentation though!!

Jennifer,
We were married in Harris County, as I believe you were as well, and we received our license (or was it certificate?) about 4 weeks after. However, this was 10 years ago and Harris County may have upgraded their systems since. I would give them a call and find out. Every county is different so the other members in this forum may not have an answer for you unless they were married in Harris County as well. Here's a helpful link:

If I recall correctly, the marriage license allows two people to get married, and then you receive a marriage certificate afterwards to show that you are married. Again, this was years ago and our license/certificate has been in our safety deposit box this whole time, so I could be wrong.

Bob and I got married on Oct 9 and returned home Oct 15, in the evening, our ML was waiting for us in the mail box the very next day. I was surrpised at the speed, it's like our pastor hand delivered it or something to the county clerk!

Jennifer, I didn't have that problem, and I didn't get all my stuff changed into my new name until June of 2005 (of course we had our ML so quickly that when Bob added me we just showed the ML). Can your hubby deposit it in your soon to be joint bank account (assuming you will have a joint acct)?

Thanks Steven! I'll call them today. It's been like 3 weeks I think.
In Texas...you get the ML, get it signed by the officiant and they mail it to the state. Then the enter it in and mail it back to you. So we are waiting to get it back.
We will have a joint account...but it is my account. So I have to change my name and add him and I am just going to wait and do it all at once. I'm just trying to save myself the time, that's all.
