Changing my name

Ok didnt really know where to post this but this is dealing with legal issues. So here it goes...How do I go about changing my last name after we are married? What kind of things do I need to be able to change my name legally? And who all do I need to notify that I have gotten married and need to change my name?? I have read alot of books on weddings and planning and yet to have come across any kind of answers about this sort of thing.

I started with the SS office & DL office.

And regarding your DL, you can call a local DL office and ask them what you need to bring and do to change your name and get a new license.

Then I gave the necessary information to my work, college admin office, doctors, etc. I also turned in an addy change with new info to the post office to ensure I got my mail under my new name.

Also gave the info to my daughter's school. Thats all I can think of right now, but will keep thinking on what else I did.

I did SS first, then took the letter they gave me to the BMV. I think I had my card within two weeks - not long at all.

Any monthly bills that you have in your name you should change (credit cards, utilities, etc.) Some will do it right over the phone, some require a form to be filled out. The biggest things are your DL and SS card though, so do those first. The rest can wait, really. I still have a CC and phone in my maiden name, lol.

Make sure you change your passport too.

The first thing you need to do is go to the social security office and change your name there. Once they mail your new social security card then you can start working on your other documents.
