duh I just realized something...

If our plans for being married in October are still a go (and so far, so good) I haven't done a friggin thing! NOTHING. I just realized it's going to be February and that leaves no more than 8 months to go. That's not so bad, only I've barely given it any thought. I have the ceremony location picked out, and that's about it. I have that dress...but I'm not sure that's what I really want to wear. It's a nice dress for our honeymoon though. I have a color scheme in mind (choc. brown & pale pink). Put it all together and what do you have? A naked bride on the beach.

I was talking to my boss about it, and it doesn't seem like he's got the hookup on damn-near anything. He can get a luncheon for free though LOL. I guess people are happy to donate food to firefighters. It's easier to pull that off. Personal freebies?

So... I need to:
  • find a cheap-a** hall somewhere, but one that doesn't look like a frigging dump.
  • see if my friend's dad would be able to cater our function for cheap
  • see if that same friend and our mutual friend wouldn't mind playing bartenders (one of them actually is one)
  • pick an actual date...
  • then I can do some save-the-dates for a few people....again

There is so much more to do, but this is what's needed now/soon. Losing some weight in the process could be nice...

Crush, actually it's long enough...... you know what, you could have five years and you would think you can't do it. :-) You will do fine....... Relax. First things first, pick a date!

I think what scares me is that 2 full months have passed and I seriously haven't given it any more thought than what you see above. In my mind I'm saying, "If 2 months went by that fast, it can happen again."

*sigh* we've agreed on October... That is hurricane season. We had a hurricane October 23 last year. *whine*

I'm sure you'll pull it together. I'm getting married October 7. I'm willing to *share* that date with you! Ok, you have a *theme* in mind: Cheap@ss, no frigging dumps! That's a GREAT start!

Vic, it's not nearly so bad as you think. Most of the wedding planning junk thats out there says you only need to be gathering ideas and you still have a few months more to pull it all together.

Yeah, you missed that she didn't get the house. But it sounds like it worked out for the best with her new job--and not having to share the property with her mom!

I updated the thread a while back I thought. We're not getting the house. The whole thing was based on information provided that my uncle would be getting transferred and we'd all have jobs. That, unfortunately wasn't even confirmed. So it all fell through. Then I got my new job. So, we're here...for a while.

It's because of magazines and other people that everyone frigging books a year in advance which wouldn't be necessary if people just chilled out. I'm not worried about the timeline so much as I am that 2 months have gone by and I haven't given it thought (I already said this didn't I?).

I'm going to look at a recreation meeting room this weekend I guess. It's a building made in 2000 so it shouldn't be all old and crappy looking. It comes with tables and chairs. There's no alcohol allowed in the building. I don't care either way about the alcohol. If we were allowed, I'd get it. If not, oh well. I hope I like this place though.

Oh- I thought the new job you were talking about was near your new house Most of the time I can't get on here to check in for the weekend- so I end up missing stuff If I DO get on here- it's usually that I'm intoxicated and everyone has gone home for the night. Then I go to sleep.

Well- good luck with the place you're going to see! I'm sure it'll be great! OH- how about a park? Have you checked those places yet?

Our weather is pretty unpredictable during October :/ I'm ambivalent about it being during hurricane season. I'm so messed up over the last 2 years it's not even funny.

Oh October 14th - that's the date we settled on (as long as his divorce is complete by then). Ticker time... yes

Good choice; that's the day before my birthday!
aaaaaaaaaaaand I just wanted to mention that DH and I were engaged for 4.5 months and we pulled of a pretty nice wedding if I do say so myself. Yes, we had to have it on a Friday because everything was booked, but that worked fine becuase we invited more people than we really wanted to and because it was on a Friday not everyone was able to make it. you have pleeeeeeeeeeeeenty of time. But don't tell yourself that, cus then you'll put things off even longer.

You have plenty of time. I planned in 6 months. You'll be fine. Check into hotels. Most of them have some shockingly nice ballrooms where you can cater your own foods. I mean chain hotels like Holiday Inn not the mom and pop special. Best of Luck!

I think you've got enough time Vic. I think you only need all the time the magazines recommend if you're going to have a huge wedding. I think I could have done mine in much less time than I have taken. I will have had about 9 months total and it's been so much time that I took a month off from it

Back working on it now though!

I do know what you mean about the time flying away though... Can you believe that it's been 6 months since Suzy got married I was so shocked when I read that because if only felt like about 2! Bet you it'll seem like no time at all until my wedding & LJ's too.

You know already what you need to set into place:
Somewhere to get married
Someone to perform the ceremony
Somewhere to celebrate afterwards
Something to feed your guests with.

And that is all the big stuff

After that there are a zillion little details
Photography
cake
favours
invitations
table plans
tankyou cards
gift registry
Drama with the in-laws/BP
Music
Speeches
Jewellery
Clothes
shoes

Oh the list goes on and on LOL.

You'll get there honey, and it'll be great

we only had three months to plan our wedding, and it turned out really nice too

All those magazines mess w/ your head, don't go by their timelines. For your dress, check that place MTGH got her dress from, you may find your dress there... or bridesave.com (I think a few on here have used them & been happy), they have incredible prices.

I do think that maybe you should consider re-scheduling for November. I say this w/ much love & gentleness in my heart for you, b/c after going thru the last 'cane season w/ you (from afar, which sucked) I'd hate for you to be freaked out the *entire* season, afraid not only for your family, home, community but also your wedding. If a hurricane did come, you'd want to have time to regroup, take stock & do whatever you need to in order for "the show to go on". Just my , you know I wish all the best for you! No matter what you decide, I'll be praying for you.

Your wedding looked fantastic Rose, was lovely to see a guy in a morning suit rather than a tux! Along with your elegant cake it was a very British affair! Have you got British family? Was it just coincidence?

I'm a PuertoRican Anglophile!!! (grew up watching all those great BBC series like Brideshead Revisited and To Serve Them All My Days; those are probably before your time, LOL)

Actually, I've always LOVED morning suits but it was DH who said he wanted to wear one, I couldn't believe my luck when he told me. He hates traditional tuxes but looked positively yummy in the morning coat, huh? He was disappointed that he couldn't get a full vest for it here... other than that he loved it. FIL wore one for their wedding too, 47 yrs ago.

The cake was a fluke. Yet another detail that came out perfect and I can't take credit for, much. I love Wedgwood china, and when I saw the cake at the reception it reminded me of old pieces I've seen. But I wasn't sure when ordering whether I should get a colored cake or not, it was my MOH (who knows me better than I know myself) who told me I had to have it because it would make me happy.

ETA: thank you Ann, that was nice to read!

You're very welcome Rose, I wouldn't mind seeing more pictures though

I think I've only seen 2...
You know that's one problem I find on here, if the weddings were before you joined you don't get see the pics of hear all the details. And I'm a sucker for details

vic, if you guys only knew how much stuff i crammed into my last month of being engaged!!!! i mean, when i joined last march (i think), all i did was daydream about stuff and ask for opinions.... i did a little footwork, which ended up all getting cancelled or changed anyway, and then... somehow life fast-forwarded on me (so i can at least relate to that fear!!!), and it was a month to the wedding w/ many plans left to finalize!!! so, that being said, your wedding will be smaller than ours (85) if it is like what you were planning before, so i have all faith in yoiu--you are WAY too creative!! besides, insomnia actually comes in handy sometimes for fixing last minute glitches!!! ok, i'm sure that was far from reassuring, but again, i can relate!!! anyway, you've got pash, and us, so we'll help you whenever/however we can, right ladies?!?!?

Vic I have NO doubt that when you set your mind to something it'll get done. Besides, you have all of us to keep you on track and to yell at you when you're spending too much money for something.
