Smile Good day on the wedding front

I feel like I actually got some work done today!

I spoke to FH about our gift registry last night and we went over what we need for the house, what colours and styles we'll go for. (Well... that may be an exageration I said I'd like to stick to black and cream and chocolate and he said 'that's fine') So today I got our gift list set up.

I also met with our florist to check when she needs to see me again.

And I went to the hotel and met with their wedding Manager. So I've now finalised our menu choices!!! The bugger tried to argue with my chioces though WTF? If that's what I want everyone to eat what's the problem? These were items off his menu!

Ok I'll tell you what it was and you tell me if I was being crazy...

Starters:
Cock-a-leekie soup
Chicken liver pate with oatcakes and redcurrant chutney
Melon with citrus fruit in a heather honey syrup

Main Course:
Pan fried chicken breast with a tarragon and mustard glaze
Roast leg of lamb with minted pear and a redcurrant jus

Dessert:
Apple and caramel tart with sauce anglaise
Black cherry cheesecake with kirch syrup
Scottish cheddar and brie with grapes and biscuts.

Tea & coffee.

The guy was saying that I shouldn't have chicken.
So I said well people that don't eat red meat often have chicken, he said it sould be beef.
I said I didn't want beef when I was having lamb and he said well if it was a choice between the lamb and the beef I should have the beef.
I said it wasn't a choice between the lamb and beef because I love lamb, I want lamb and my family will want lamb the choice is between the chicken and the beef.
Oh he siad, it'd be the chicken then.
I said that is why I picked it!

I swear this guy has had this smug l attitude everytime I've had a meeting with him. Like I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Didn't let him walk over me though
See, I am learning

I'll have the soup, the chicken and the cheesecake please and thank you.
Ann, I've forgottem already, what time am I supposed to be there?

Good girl! You tell him! Cheeky bugger! Wipe that smug, condescending grin off his face!

Plans sound like they are coming along very nicely!

LOL! Why does he have them as choices if he doesn't think people should choose them!?!? I'm laughing because I wasn't there--I'm sure it was VERY frustrating for you, though! Sounds good to me! I'd have the lamb! Chicken and beef is so standard. (Not to insult anyone who has that--that's my point, I know that's the options most people have! ) So, I think it makes it a little more interesting to offer lamb.

Ok, now I need to know what is cock-a-leekie soup? I'm guessing chicken and leeks? Ok, and I don't know what kirch syrup is either and sauce anglaise. Ok, thank you. Everything else we have in the US. I need to bone up on my Scottish foods!

Mmmm, I'd happily have the lamb. I'm salivating over the minted pear and redcurrant au jus. Good for you for keeping him in check!

Glad to know you're getting things done... despite the idiotic vendors you have to deal with.

See, now I'll need to go back and say 'all my friends want the lamb too!'

I think he was pissed off because I didn't go for one of 'his' set menus (I took the elements I liked out of three of them). But he's not the chef, it's not like I was offending his choices. You know I shouldn't even care.

He was weird about me hiring my own MC as well. The hotel says it provides an MC but really it's just the day manager trying to do it, which is not the same thing. Hiring a proper master of ceremonies is more like having a wedding coordinator for the day. They keep everyone running on time, in the right order and everyone else gets to relax because the MC will keep everything smooth. It's not the same as saying 'now we have the FOB'...

Enough about that nasty wee man...

Cock-a-leekie is a traditional Scottish soup, it's just like it sounds! Chicken and leek Sometimes there are other vegetables in it too, but it's a clear based soup so not too heavy. I think if we had Scotch Broth or lentil (our other standard choices) it'd be too filling and no one would eat their dinner. And as my big brothers always tease me; little girls that don't eat their dinner can't have any pudding (I swear, they still say that to me!)

I *think* kirch is a cherry liqueur so a slightly alcoholic syrup... em I missed out a letter it's really kirsch. Oops.

And sauce anglaise is a chilled kind of creamy sauce, like creme patissere (Sp?!) Like what they put inside really good eclaires...

The hotel runs a catering school during the day so you end up with really nice food and great service but you don't pay as much for it. Brilliant deal actually, you just have to put up with that smug git of a manager
