Default Is This Too Common?

Hello everyone!
I'm new to this forum and need a little help.
My wedding is in July, and
when I first thought of the colors I definitely thought burgundy NOT wine.
I though "its something different", and well its definetely me! I love that color and wear it a lot.
But, now that I'm really planning the wedding I see it A LOT, everywhere, is it that common?
I'm starting to see it more, than what I thought was common, such as lavender or pink.
I've even considered changing the color, thinking its so generic, but I still love the color.

Though I have seen it used, I don't think that means you can't use the color in a unique way. Congrats on your engagement and wedding, and welcome to Pash!

WECLOME!!!

My advice is to pick and stick with the colors you love. Who cares if they are common or not, your wedding will be different and unique because of your personal touches and taste! If you want to change it I think that would probably be fine, but make sure it is a color you love!!

Hello and welcome.

I agree with Suzy. Just use the color that you love. Who cares what others think it is your big day and it should be what you want.

Welcome!

Ditto what Suzy said!

I'm not sure I get the distinction between burgundy and wine though...

First, welcome to Pash.

Second, use whatever color you'd like. It doesn't matter if it's "common" or not. If it's what you like, it's what you should use.

Welcome to Pash! Looking forward to hearing more about your wedding! I think there are really only SO many colors when you think about it--they've all been used before! LOL! I think it's the "new car" phenomenon. You buy a new car and suddenly you see them EVERYWHERE. Are there really MORE of that car on the road than there was before you bought the car? No. But since it's "yours," you focus in on it more then.

I'm also not sure about the distinction between burgundy and wine. Isn't burgundy named after burgundy wine!?!? But I'm interested in hearing more about the difference, as it sounds like a very important distinction to you.

Welcome and Congrats.

What i did want to mention, in addition to not knowing the difference between wine and burgandy (even though wine i think has a hint of purple) is that you probably saw more of those colors than pinks cuz pinks and lavenders tend to be more spring and summery colors, and reddish, brownish tones are more fall colors. I think eventually you'll see the switch.

I know cuz we've been having a very hard time trying to find peachish color bridesmaid dresses and they've been telling us it'll be out in the spring season

I think wine has more purple to it, where burgandy has more red.

Welcome to Pash Arismom,

I have seen a few wedding mag.s say the new trend in wedding colors is deep jewel tones like emerald, burgundy, deep blues…… But I don’t think you should abandon the color all together. If you really love it but you don’t want to seem generic use it unique ways that define who you and your FH are. Like since you wear it all the time per haps you could wear a burgundy ribbon around your waist or something like that.

Oh wine is like in the middle of deep red and peep purple but is a little tiny bit closer to purple and burgundy is more a deep rich red. I think at least that is the wine color I’m going for in my wedding.

Hello and welcome to Pash

I say it can be unsettling to chose something you think will be really unusual just to find everyone is starting to use it. I picked black for my Bm but so did about 4 others on here that I can think of and all the bridal mags have it in there too now! I thought I was being so original too

I think the point to remember is that your wedding will be different because its the only wedding with you and your Fh in it! Your guests aren't likely to be browsing wedding magazines or looking round bridal stores so they probably won't have seen Burgundy over and over again. And they aren't likely to go to a lot of other weddings in the same season so it'd be quite unlucky for them to attend 2 burgundy themed weddings...

I'd say if you still love the colour then stick with it, and if you're unsure then combine it with something else... how about burgundy and champagne?!

ETA:
wee idea...

Hello and Welcome to Pash!

I say go with the color that you love! Who cares if others have used it too? What makes it special is that you're using it for your special day.

Good luck!

I think you're safe with burgundy. I think you're thinking on the grand scale, magazines, tv shows, etc. But if you get right down to it, people don't go to tons of weddings. If you think burgundy is being used a lot in your area, that's a different story. But even still, I don't remember a single color from any wedding I've been to. Most people don't pay that much attention.

That's a really good point, Cru5h. We're so obsessed with this stuff in our own weddings, and I can sometimes remember what colors some of the girls here are using (because we talk about it so much), but actually GOING to a wedding(?).... No, I don't remember either. I think you're right that people might say, "Oh, it looked nice." But they're not going to say, "Wow! Will you look at the color of these cocktail napkins!!!" or "Can you believe she used burgundy when cousin Sally used burgundy?!?!" I think you're ok using whatever colors you like--that's all that matters!

Burgundy is my favorite color so I'm biased.

You guys are great!!

-you're so right about the "new car" phenomenon. that's funny LOL! because it's so true, Marrying_the_Good_Husband.
you are all right about the difference between burgundy & wine. Wine is more of a deep purple.
Those dresses are great, I love them. thanks, 555Ann555.
Actually thats exactly the color I'm looking for. I never would have thought of combining the burgundy with the champagne. I consired either silver or mauve, but I love how this looks.
I really love the last one for my MOH (the champagne w/ red ribbon) which is my sister.
thanks guys!

Congrats on your engagement!! Burgundy seems like a great choice for a wedding, especially if you want that color. As for being common, granted my FPILs' wedding was in burgundy but other than that, I've never really seen it used. I like it

If you go to a bridal salon and look at their swatch cards claret red is one of the most common colours (or at least it is here). Almost every company has that colour and it's also used year round. (I work in a bridal shop so I get to see what is common around here). While it is common though, I think the colours that you use with it make a huge difference. For example, in the fall you can use a dark red (claret, wine, burgandy, etc.), a dark purple and a burnt orange. At christmas, most people seem to go with a dark red, white or ivory and some other colour (black, green, or blue) and in the spring and summer, they tend to cimbine the darker reds with pale pinks and blues. It depends entirely what you want to do with it.

I just posted on another thread about how a lot of people order bridesmaid dresses in one main colour with an accent colour for the sash or other part of the dress. You could always go with burgandy and use another colour as an accent to make your wedding party different from other ones. There's so many options that if you really want burgandy, I'd say go ahead 'cause you can still make it unique in your own way.

What a strange phenomena, but so true.

Use the color that you love. Just because others have used the same color, you will have different bridesmaid attire, flowers, linens, napkins, location, and so on -- so your wedding will look different.

As for conveying the difference between wine and burgundy, get fabric swatches (paint chips, whatever) of the actual color shade you want. Use the swatch instead of merely going by name so there will be no doubt nor confusion as to the actual color.
