Default photographers?

How far in advance did you all book your photographers?

I have found the photographers I want but they are more expensive than we budgeted for. We absolutely love their work and we are willing to make sacrifices in other areas in order to book with them. Any who, I think they could be quite popular so I just wanted to get an idea of how far in advance you all book your photographers? (or how far in advance you plan on booking)

You can check out their work here *warning there is sound*

I am not trying to sell you any thing, but I would appreciate you opinions.

It does look like an amazing photographer! i would book ASAP, but im like that, I dont want to miss a great opportunity. We booked our photographer back in October. But she isnt a professional, she s got a great eye though (she did an old friends wedding) she just loves photography and does weddings, parties and some sittings on the side. We are saving so much with her. But yeah I book everything right away so im not running around crazed and having to settle on someone or a company I dont like as much

The photographer was one of the forst things I booked, as soon as I had a date and location. I was married in Sep, and I booked the photographer before the end of Feb. The good ones go fast, especially if you're having your wedding during peak season.

I booked 9 months in advance. I was told it was a good thing, because we are getting married in June & it seems a popular month to be getting married.

Those pictures are amazing! Call right now and book that photographer if you can afford it. I would do it as soon as you can so you know you have the photographer you want.

we booked ours within the first month of being engaged (about a year before the wedding)...but I also knew that I wanted this particular one. I called some others just to see if his pricing was comparable and of the three I called, two were booked....

I would do it as soon as you could, even just a deposit and pay over time...think of it this way....A baker could make more than one wedding cake...but a photographer? One wedding per day.

I started interviewing them as soon as we had a date, it was a huge deal for me. Apart from actually getting married it's probably the thing I'm most excited about.

I booked ours on the second meeting with him, must've been about 6 months ago so 9 months before the wedding.

If you want a wee look this is who we've booked: http://www.teamthomson.com

Talented photographers will always get booked up early, this isn't one of the things you should try to save money on unless you *really* can't afford it.

I cut back in a lot of areas to be able to afford 2 things: a brilliant photographer and a fantastic honeymoon.

ETA Book him now! Book him now! Book him right now!
Just been to see his gallery, his work is fabulous you have to book him right now!

(Ahem, excuse that I think I'm turning into my mother )

Ann,

Your photographer is awesome! I think we have similar tastes when it comes to photography. It looks like our budget is going to be mainly photos and honeymoon too. I want to book now I want to book now lol .

Thank you all for responding,

Ok, it sounds like that was one of the first vendors most of you booked. I’m 22 months away from the big day; do you think it would be nutty if we interviewed them now or should I wait? I don’t intend to sound overly excited (but I am); it’s just that with my first wedding I had a short engagement and so most of my first choices where already booked and I was disappointed with many aspects of that day I don’t want that to happed again.

Oh those are AWESOME!! That pic with the bride and her bridesmaids?? OMG, that was amazing!! That sold me right there!

Go ahead and book!! If they take bookings that far in advance. See if they have a cancellation policy regarding cancel-by-dates in case in the highly unlikely event that you find another photog that is as great!!!

ETA- Oh Ann, yours is amazing too! Oh lord I want an awesome photog now!!! Unfortunately we don't have a date! LOL

I say if he'll take the booking this early and your sure then go ahead and book him!

His work is fantastic So I'd not worry about changing your mind too much... Have you booked anything yet? I booked my church before I booked anything (coz I needed a definite date for everything else ) but right after that was my photographer.

And thanks everyone, I was *so* excited to find him. He works as part of a husband wife team so I'll have two photographers on the day, it means they can catch us un-aware for the less formal shots while we're still getting the posed shots taken. Plus you get different angles in the church when they don't normally like to move around in case they disturb anyone.

Before I met with any of photographers I had made a whole scrap book of cuttings from bridal magazines of different shots and angles and styles I liked. I took them with me to see if our taste and style would match up and whether they'd be willing to take on board my passion for getting it just right! But our taste matched really well and they were both really friendly and keen on my ideas so I went with them.

Chilli, all I'd add is make sure you get to meet him because its equally important to be comfortable with him as it is to like his style. If he doesn't seem interested enough or put you at ease you might want to keep looking.

I booked our photographer about 3 months in advance. Looking back I was lucky she was available! It was THE MOST important thing for me, since I went to school for Photography. But then again, we were only engaged for 4 months, and I spent that first month looking & meeting with photographers. I must have met with half a dozen of them.

If you really like this one particular photographer, then I'd say it's never too early to book...as long as they let you book that far out. Some won't.

We are meeting with the ceremony/reception people this weekend. This is our second meeting with them and I have already checked out their references, contracts and such so if all goes well we should be giving them a down payment. They told me that their dates start to fill up a year in advance so it was fine if we booked this early. I just wasn’t sure if photographers where the same. I think I will give them a call tomorrow or perhaps send them an email today. I appreciate all the advice, you girls are truly my honorary bridesmaids. (hmmm.. perhaps I should list you all in my program as BMs )

I booked mine 4 months in advance. It was actually a really good deal too. Originally, we planned on only having a photographer for the ceremony. One night, for shits and giggles, I requested price quotes. He responded that he would do 5 hours of our wedding and give us the negatives and proofs for about $325.00. AWESOME!
