Complexion help
In a nut shell I have bad skin. I've tried everything. I put on a mask before I go to sleep as much as possible. No help. I've hear Silverdine (did spell that right) is good for your face. I know it's go as a toplicall rub on burns but not sure if it would help with acne. Help pleeeeeease!!!!

Hello Emily,
So sorry to hear about the problems you have been having! My sister is in the same boat as she has acne, but is allergic to anything with salicylic acid, glycolic acid or benzoyl (which are the three main ingredients of 99% of acne care products!) So I feel for you.
I would recommend going to a dermatologist, to at least hear what they have to say about your condition. Best of luck, and I know others on here will have great suggestions.

I HAVE SUCH GOOD IDEAS FOR YOU!!!!
ok... #1... proactiv works really great for about 6 months but then you become immune to it for some reason. so i would start that a few months away
#2 book an appointment with your dermatologist for a few days before your wedding. (they book months in advance). tell them the problem is acne. if you have ANY pimples at all, ask for a cortizone shot. they inject it right in and the pimple is gone the next day. i have had it done (not for my wedding yet, though) and your insurance pays for the whole thing--- you may have to get a referral. but yay!
i hope that really helps

Thanks for the help ladies. I think it's time to see a new dermotologist. My present one just doesn't have the right answers. Proactiv huh....I guess I should look into that. I used Mario Badesu products for a while and they really cleared up my skin but after a few months the acne returned. Possibly I'm ammune to it now. I've hear about cortizone and I was going to make it a last resort (I'm afraid of needles).
thanks Emmy

i realized that i posted under the "ask the expert" section... but i am not an expert... oops! they do it right under your skin, it's not like a regular shot. it doesn't hurt that bad. some people have reactions to cortizone, thats why i would say do it a few days before.
some of the creams the derm. gives you make your skin red and irritated if you have sensitive skin. thats why its best not to wait to the last minute to try a new product.

With the expert forums, once the expert has responded (and I think they're set up so that no one can see the question until the expert has published it, which is generally when they answer it), anyone else can chime in too.

Personally I would see if it could by chance be a hormonal problem. Acne is also a sign of polycystic whatever the heck they call it..... Any way, medication might be able to help. I know when getting pregnant they checked mine because of adult acne and put me on a medication to help us conceive and it also cleared up my acne. I am going back on it today......
Good luck.

i have bad skin as well, it can be very frustrating and i usually arrange my whole life to adjust to it. i've been on every over the counter treatment, i've even taken accutane.
accutane cleared me up the most but it's a last resort type of deal.
do you use an oil-free, fragrance-free moisturizer? it's my opinion that you should moisturize every time you wash your face with soap - even if you have oily skin.
another thing that helped mine was not staying up late all the time, drinking tons of water, and not over-washing my skin.
i also stopped wearing foundation & instead only wear concealer on the bumps themselves, which has cleared me up A LOT.
currently i use acne free from walmart (basically proactiv) and i only wash my face when i shower. it somehow manages my acne *very* well. back when i used to wash day & night, i broke out a lot more.
good luck, sweet girl.

I don't have horrible acne, but enough that it makes me a little worried. FI gets random breakouts, but when he does they are huge angry looking red pimples that last a week.
So I asked the woman who is doing microderm on my back (acne scars). She sells a line called Dermalogica. I'm using the face wash (so is FI) and at first it feels SUPER drying, but it's made a difference. And when I do get a breakout it disappears in a day or two.
I also use Clean & Clear dual action moisturizer. It's moisturizer and acne medicine. It's not too heavy and I swear my face has cleared up a lot.
Also, make sure you don't touch your face too much during the day. It's really easy to transfer oils and dirt hat way.
