Hello Future Mrs.
Finding a makeup artist for your wedding can be quite a daunting task. Looking at ads in bridal magazines for your area is a great way to begin your search, and here are a few more tips:
1) Word of Mouth: Ask anyone you know who got married recently whose hair/makeup you admired and ask them who they use. Word of mouth is the best way to find a great artist as people who were truly please will give a good recommendation. Anyone can buy advertising space, but positive feedback is worth it's weight in gold.
2) Google: Simply google "bridal makeup artist in NJ" or any key phrase that describes exactly what you want and see what comes up. Chances are you can be linked to quite a few sites that will give you some artists to consider.
3) Bridal Sites: knot.com, brides.com, weddingwire.com and projectwedding.com all list hair/makeup vendors for you to browse.
As far as hiring someone, make sure you like thier work. If they don't have many pictures on thier website, ask them to send samples of other brides or some of thier other work to see. Also ask for references. Any company without strong references should be a red flag.
Once you find someone you "click" with, schedule a preview to be 100% sure. I know many other brides can give you great suggestions as well, so be sure to check back occasionally
