Default Necklace: simple or extravagant?

Hey all.

I've been reading the board for awhile while planning my upcoming August wedding. Everyone was such a great help last time that I thought I'd ask again. I have my wedding dress, and I'm so excited.

The only problem is the jewelry. Now, I'm most likely going to go light on the earrings- simple drop earrings with a little pearl or crystal or something. I'm not really sure about a bracelet. What I really want help with is the necklace. My dress is gorgeous. It looks like a ballgown and sort of reminds me of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. Heh. I still kind of want that old, antique-y princess feel in the necklace. I would love a choker, and again, something really regal.

Here's the dress:

The hair is probably going to be half up and kind of wavy.

I was looking at something like this in a different color. I'm really concerned about going too overboard and having the necklace compete with the bodice of the dress though. I would like it to be somewhat ornate. I've been looking around online for awhile now, and nothing has really jumped out at me. I was hoping someone else had ideas of where to look, how ornate to go, etc.

Thanks for all your help! I really, really appreciate it.

IMO, I would go simple because anything very ornate is going to compete with your beautiful dress. It is a gorgous necklace but for that dress I think it would be kinda much.

Yeah, I agree that it would be kinda much. I was just trying to give an idea of the kind of antique time period I'm going for. (I guess picture that one in antique silver with more of an amber color in the crystals.) I just don't want my jewelry to look really modern looking. I want something that'll work in that antique silver color or even a rose gold color maybe. I don't want anything that droops down that much and is that ornate that I showed, but I was hoping I could find something that is more than just a pendant necklace on a chain and also tasteful.

I guess I'll keep shopping around. Thanks!

Your dress is stunning! Wow!

As far as the necklace, if you're crafty or so inclined and are looking for a princess-y choker, I bet you could make one out of ribbon and a pretty brooch. (In my mind I see a cameo or a simple mother of pearl pin.) Adding a clasp isn't too hard. I agree that the necklace you posted is too much with your dress. I would probably wear a simple strand of pearls.

Thank you everyone for all the comments on the dress!

I am pretty crafty so that's certainly an idea, CW. I'll snoop around the huuuuge Joann Fabric store near me with every craft known to mankind and see what I can come up with. Sorry for the confusion earlier about the necklace. It is a pretty necklace, but I never meant to imply to use it with my dress. I was just hoping if anyone had any online stores they'd recommend. I still like the idea of that antique silver with amber crystals if I can find anything simple enough to pass. I will definitely check out the craftstore, CW, to see what I can find- if nothing than to just get more projects that will sit around my apartment unfinished!

I'm not so sure I'd go with a choker... the design on the dress looks very delicate, and a choker may be too heavy and throw it off balance. I'd go with a shimmery silver necklace.

scratching chin IMO

IMO I say that a simple dress need dressing up with the jewelry but a dress such as yours should not need anything extravagant. One should never complete with the other. So whatever you choose I would KISS (keep it simple sweetheart) and I am sure it will compliment the dress.
