Does anyone speak/write another language?
(I didn't know where to post this so please feel free to move it)
A friend of mine is trying to get 3 paragraphs translated into 20 different languages. The text is for a women's shelter. She already has the following translations but she's looking for others.
English, French, German, Russian, Japanese, Hebrew, Ukrainian, Italian, Gaelic, Maliseet, Spanish
Can anyone offer to help? If so, please email me (address below) or pm me. I'll be happy to give you the text, my thanks and a big

How soon does she need the paragraph translated? My brother's best friend speaks Russian and Hebrew, but it may take a few days to get a hold of him (phone and e-mail tag being what it is). PM me if you want me to look into it.

Doh! I just realized you already have Russian and Hebrew. I blame it on my kindergarten teacher brain.

That is the problem, it is a rough translation. I use them from time to time when I need to "tweak" a business letter but they aren't the best. You can't take any of the translation at face value because it's only translating words but not context or nuances. I normally have to fix what has been translated.
Example - here is the paragraph above ^^^^^ translated into French
Voilà le problème, il est la traduction approximative. J'utilise
De temps en temps quand j'ai besoin de "tordre" un
Lettre d'affaires mais ils ne sont pas les meilleurs. Vous ne pouvez pas
Prendre toute de la traduction à leur valeur nominale parce que c'est
Seulement traduire les paroles, mais pas contexte. Je normalement dû
Pour réparer ce qui a été traduit.
Now here is the paragraph above ^^^^ translated back into English -

LOL Needless to say, students should never use translation programs for their studies!
The text doesn't have to be perfect but it does need human translation so that it can be understood.
Thanks anyhow Htown

Try your local church, I believe when Pastors go to school they need to learn to read the Bible in both Greek and Hebrew. At least mine did.

Good idea!
Our friends are ministers. When they were in school, one class of new students would take Greek, the next year the group would take Hebrew.
Since my friend already has the Hebrew translation, I will check with them to see if they learned Greek (and if it's something they had to learn thoroughly).
