applause Picking a date!!!

Hello! We just got engaged about a week ago!! YAY! Now for the planning... we are trying to pick a date and a little baffled. I am leaning more toward this fall (9 months away) and he is pushing for next spring (over a year!!) His reasoning is good I suppose... he's worried about both of our families all making it (we are in GA his are in TX and mine in NY) and we just bought a house so financially we need to re-coop a little bit... what do you guys think...? I know it's all up to us but I was just looking for some opinions please?! Thanks ladies! Kristie

I think there is nothing wrong with either date! Do you have a preference for fall v. spring - as far as preferred colors, weather (do you want anything outdoors), etc.?

Personally, for me a longer engagement (2 years) worked better. We had bought a house only about a month before we got engaged, plus I was studying for a professional exam the following fall (which got pushed back to spring), plus we had some family/personal issues to deal with... so I wasn't even able to start on the planning until we were about 10 months out. And now with 5 months to go, it's pretty much all done

It sounds like $$ is probably the biggest issue for you guys, so why don't you sit down and figure out how much you can afford now, and what you can get for that money... and if you don't think it's enough, then maybe you should wait. (Or go the opposite way, figure out how much you'd like to spend to throw the shindig of your dreams, and then determine how long it would take you to save up that much).

Well you could take into consideration a lot of things...

Preference of fall vs. spring..

Do you think you'll need more or less planning time which would help you decide if 9 months is enough time.

I would personally wait...and if you really want a fall it wont hurt to push it off even longer...a longer engagement will give you time to plan a wedding where you can look at all your options and get better prices...AND give you time to save money and work on that house...I would work out the money issue BEFORE getting married. You don't want to start out being married broke!

Oh and congrats on the engagement!

well it really depends on how much you wanna spend, and things like that! i just started planning mine, i been engaged for a year and did nothing! so now i have 3 months to pull it all together and from whati read, the most expensive months to do a wedding are from May-October so thats something you may wanna keep in mind, they also said that the longer you plan ahead the less you will spend bc you'll keep running into deals. so thats the cheaper way to go, if money is not an issue, talk to family thats far away and have them put thier 2 cents in. maybe do somehwhere in between even. just remember that they may need to request the time off
