Well...we did it...
WE BOUGHT A HOUSE!
I was hesitant to even mention it because 10 minutes after we submitted our bid yesterday, someone else did (imagine that-a stagnant housing market and the ONE HOUSE we choose, someone else goes after). The owner sent us a counter today with some minor tweaks, which we accepted and signed off on. So in 30 days we'll officially be homeowners!!
I'm so excited because we got an INCREDIBLE deal. The previous owners had done a ridiculous amount of renovations in the hopes of basically flipping the house-that was a year ago. Then the market here went south so they've had to lower the price over and over. Even worse, they were supposed to close on this house last Friday, and discovered at closing that the buyer had forged financials! Bad for them, great for us!
I'll post pictures later, but here are the details: Our house is on a corner lot in a gorgeous residential neighborhood. About 5-10 minutes from malls restaurants, stores, etc., 5 minutes from my parents, and about 10-15 from downtown where I work. The street/neighborhood is very quiet though. We're about a block from the community park/pool and about the same to the public lake access.
The house itself is amazing: 2800 sq. ft. with all brand new hardwoods on the main level. 5 bedrooms-3 up, 2 down-living room upstairs, den downstairs, seaparate dining room, good sized kitchen (stove is pretty new as is dishwasher-both convey), separate breakfast room, 3 full baths (2 up, 1 down) TONS of closet/storage space throughout. Fireplace in the den. Covered patio in the backyard and nice front porch.
The yard will need some TLC after about a year of no attention (lots of raking in our future!) and the covered part of the patio isn't my favorite, but it's livable til we get around to it. TONS of room for baby, and a home office (I'll be part time from home-definitely after delivery, hopefully long term) on the main level. There's even an unfinished room off the den that will be perfect for Cliff to use as a music room (he's planning to soundproof-double yay!).
We took some pictures today when we ran by for a victory lap-I'll post soon!! I CAN'T BELIEVE WE DID IT!!!

Kudos to you guys for getting the house.  Here's to hoping all inspections, etc. go smoothly for an on-time closing.

Thanks! On the plus side, the house was just inspected a month ago, so HOPEFULLY it'll go smoothly...knocking on LOTS of wood!!

WOW...it sounds like you bought a mansion haha...but congrats!!! I can just sense how excited you are! It's a far ways away for me and I'm psyched about getting a house and being able to decorate it and such...
I cannot WAIT to see pictures...it sounds amazing...

A lil late, but congratulations!
I just stopped by your blog, and wanted to say congratulations on the new house! That is wonderful news! I know that I am a lil late on getting this to you, but I am actually sitting down at the computer for once (early morning thanks to the storms here in Iowa!) and wanted to comment on so many of the newlyweds great news that they have had to share in one way or another!
I hope that things are going well for you & your family! And that you both have many wonderful years together!  Jeanine
