Popularity of wedding scents
Hello Sharon,
I recently went online with my company weddingzent.com, and was hoping to get your input as to the importance of a scented wedding. Im curious as to why every detail is focused upon, but for some reason scent is overlooked. As many of us know, smell is a very powerful sense, and can instantly create a mental imprint.
So my questions are 1) Do you see scent as an emerging trend in weddings. and 2) Do you think it is an important aspect of the perfect wedding.

Hi, and thanks for writing. Yes, incorporating scent into weddings is becoming a big focus right now as everyone looks at green and organic ideas for weddings, and the senses come more into play with color and texture. I just wrote a whole chapter on the five senses, with a big section on Scent in my book "What's Your Bridal Style?" www.sharonnaylor.net.
The one thing you have to be careful about with scent, though, is that some guests have sensitivities and allergies to scented candles, and portable scent machines have been known to make people feel ill. So keep it on the gentle side.

Some brides have this problem, too! Even when picking out my flowers I had to be careful not to use the more fragrant ones. I was once in a wedding where we carried silk flowers that had these scented pouches in the middle... it was so overpowering I almost threw up!
I know for our outdoor, summer wedding, I'm counting on the natural scents from our surroundings to be enough... if not too much! We'll be stocking the bathrooms with antihistamine's and tissues, just in case.

I've already posted elsewhere to you and others about the widespread and serious difficulties scent poses to myself, my family, and friends, so I won't rehash it in full here. Suffice to say NOT having scent is a very high priority for us.

I also hate perfumy smells. I like natural scents but not chemically reproduced ones they never smell the same and make my chest hurt.

I think I'll just stick with the outdoor smells...and maybe for the reception a few candles but nothing major...
If I had an indoor reception or weddings I would probably use some sort of scent to get rid of the church-y smell and reception hall smell... good luck!
