Default Davids Bridal and Ebay...

My daughter has found a gown that she absolutley loves at Davids Bridal in Cape Girardeau, Mo. I was wondering if any of you here have dealt with Davids Bridal especially the Cape Store and how were you treated? Ive read some things online about Davids Bridal in general and there seems to be quite a few dissatisfied Brides. Also, does anyone know if they offer a layaway program of any sort and if so how it works? How much down...how long you have to get it out...etc..etc.
Now, the other questions. I have found some flowers on Ebay for the whole wedding party. Was wondering what everyones take was on buying flowers from Ebay? Did they arrive crushed, were they as pretty as the pics...etc. Also, have found a beautiful flower girl dress there, just want some input on whether I should stick to a local vendor or would ebay work?

My cousin lives in Cape, but she has not used the DB there. I love to visit there, it is so pretty!

I went to DB in Brookfield, just outside of Milwaukee and I had no problems what-so-ever, but every store is different. I wish you luck!

I think you'll find a lot of mixed reaction about David's Bridal. I think the best thing to do would be to ask people from your area or go visit yourself and see how it goes. I bought a bride's book early in my planning that devoted an entire chapter to why brides SHOULDN'T use DB, but then again, many brides on this board had a good experience. I bought my dress at a non-chain boutique, but I did buy my veil at DB and that went fine. I also bought my BMs shoes there and had no problem. I have heard they charge an arm and a leg for alterations, so definitely check on that. I paid right around $100 TOTAL on alterations and I was stunned at how much DB seems to charge.

Had a horrible experience with the one in Albany NY. Would have blown up the building if I could have. Thankfully I bought my dress at a locally owned shop, but the dress my BMs picked was from DB. Five out of the seven regretted it within weeks...

They are all different though, so do your research - and do a fly by. Walk in and see if anyone approaches you and their attitude when you're just "browsing".

Well, I have a friend whose son is getting married in May and his fiance had gone to Davids Bridal to get her gown and his mother went on a cruise in February of this year and she also went there to get her gown for the cruise and she said the lady there was really nice and even sent her a card afterwards telling her that she hoped she enjoyed her cruise. She said her FDIL didnt have any problems with them either, I guess it just depends on who is working the day you go in. Ive also found a smaller shop in another town that is really nice and they were really helpful when I talked to them on the phone, so guess we will visit both to get a feel of who we feel most comfortable working with. My daughter has her heart set on this one particular gown from DB and Ive noticed that Alfred Angelo makes almost the same Gown so hopefully she will be able to get one or the other and be satisfied.

I used DB for my dress, and BM dresses and shoes. No problems with the ordering of the dresses, but alterations on BM dresses was outrageous! I ended up taking them elsewhere to get altered. I did use them for my alterations, paid an arm and a leg, and was very unsatisfied. They did do a good job on the alterations of my dress, but it took a couple tries to get it right!

I agree with the other girls though. I think it has to do with the DB store, and more importantly the sales associates... Good luck! Hopefully you get a wonderful associate

I bought some jewlery at DB and that's it. I felt like people were hounding me in the store and I just wanted to look. I talked to a friend that owns a bridal shop (the one I used for almost everything) about my experience. She said she used to work for DB and opened her own shop because she didn't like the way she was supposed to present herslef. She said that if she helped a customer who tried on a dress/dresses and didn't buy them her boss was right behind her saying, "Why didn't she leave with a dress in her hand?" Mary (my bridal shop friend) offered the greatest wedding advice and was not all about the sales. She was all about making sure you have the perfect wedding day, even if that means buying from the shop down the street. I bought my dress from Mary but since it was the first shop I visited she INSISTED that I try at least 6-8 other shops first before making a definate decision. She wanted to make sure I got exactly what I wanted.... That's true service! From my experience, DB just wants the sales and they don't really care about you.... plus everyone works on commission... I dunno... just my two cents...

I went to two in Ohio (cleveland area and toledo area) and they were awful. My experience was that they give you an attitude if you don't have an appointment to be there...and then when I did have an appointment, they ignored me and sat me on a couch for thirty minutes. And then I told the lady(ies) that were helping me that I didn't like tulle, and they insisted that I try on tulle dresses. I looked like a powder puff!! Others may disagree with me, but I had an awful time...and they do make it difficult to do thing. My wedding got called off, and they refused to even talk to me about returning anything, even with the tags and no alterations to the BM dresses. But that might be typical.

I'd do what the other ladies suggested: try it for yourself, but definately get alterations elsewhere.

Personally I found the Davids Bridal where I live (Charleston, South Carolina) to be EXCEEDINGLY PUSHY!!

I gave them my phone number at a bridal show and went in and tried on dresses twice. I felt like I did not get taken seriously because I am a young bride (20) and I did NOT get any personal attention....I told the associate I was a 36C cup bra and she brought be a 32A cup to try on with my dress..when I told her it was to small she brought be a 38D CUP! It took me thirty minutes to get someone to help me take off the dress because she was on the phone with another customer and apparently no one can help you except YOUR assigned associate....then to make matters worse....

THEY CALL ME ONCE A WEEK!

"Hi just wanted to see if you wanted to come in for an appointment this week?" ummm no if I did I would have made an apointment.

Finally I had to tell them that I had ordered my dress from somewhere else and ask them to please stop calling me!

(I went with Bridals By Jodi. Very relaxed atmosphere, wonderful personal service, sweet sales ladies, so although the dress was a little more expensive I thought it was well worth it. I also found a more unique dress....at Davids Bridal two other women were trying on the same dress as me! I want something one of a kind for me!)

Anyway, thats my thoughts on Davids Bridal.
