Are Favors out of Favor
Hello Ladies,
I'm doing some preliminary research on the growing disfavor of favors. Select the answer that is most true to your opinion in the poll above or post a comment on the thread.
Thank you!

You either answer yes or no. I don't see how much "selection" you need to do.

Thanks for alerting me to my error there! This is my first time doing something like this. I hope it reads better now. Are you going to do favors for your wedding

I think the "traditional" favors (bells, placecard holders, candy) are a waste of time and money, but I have seen some useful ones out there... so I chose "none of the above".
I think they are cute and a nice gesture, as long as they aren't something that's going to get thrown away or eaten (after all, you're paying HOW MUCH for the caterer?).
I think a lot of brides need to face the fact that MOST of their guests don't care to have a momento of their special day... we don't need little engraved picture frames and trinkets with the B&G's names and wedding day (though non-engraved frames are fine)... give that stuff to your parents only!

I did favours but I knew people would throw them out. I used them as candle holders.

I had favors. They were customized handhelp cardstock type fans. They were required though because our wedding was outside, in August, in Florida. It was about 95 at the time of our ceremony. We also gave bottled water....

I chose they are a 'useless waste of money' too.
But then again I think they are mainly and American thing - I had never heard of favours till I came onto this site.

That's my vote as well. To be honest, until I came to this site, I didn't realize people still did favors. I haven't been to a wedding with favors in about five years, and I've been to weddings from Illinois to Texas, with budgets from 5K to 100K. No favors. I think people took centerpieces from my stepsister's wedding in New York, but that's about the last time I remember something like that occuring. I just don't see the point I guess. We donated money to a veteran's fund because my husband had just returned from Iraq a month before our wedding, but favors-nope nope nope.

We made our own favors - resin coasters with our names and date in them. And I usually do keep commemorative stuff like that (I'm a sucker for souveniers).

I think it's a nice additional way to thank your guests as long as it is something that actually is meaningful and representative of the day. I wanted to do something that could be enjoyed but not something that would hang around someone's house forever or get thrown away with no use so we did little bags of trailmix since we are both very outdoors-y people. They were easy and really not very expensive ($20-$25 total).

Favors out of Favor
Thank you ladies for responding so honestly! I think the general trend is that if you can't find something useful or meaningful, than it's a waste of money. And isn't that true for everything!
So.... my follow up question is to ask you all, when have you received a favor that you did appreciate and what was it?
Thanks again!
