Default DIY Project: CD Wedding Favors

CD Wedding Favors

Submitted by: Caroline Urso

Since we had a smaller ceremony, we decided to make it just that much more personal by giving each one of our guests a personalized favor: a cd
comprised of our favorite songs.

Materials:
regular CD-Write cd's
paperboard cd cases
Avery 8163 labels
Avery 8164 labels
cd stomper

Instructions:

We purchased regular CD-Write cd's at Staples. We ordered our cd covers from Bliss Weddings Market and got them at an incredible price. We preferred the paper ones over the plastic ones, since we wanted a softer look.

We used Avery labels for the front and back of the cd cover. For the front, we used Avery 8163 labels. This label is 2x4 inches.

To get our photo on the label, we went to the Avery website: http://www.avery.com/home.html?wtloc=top Here, we were able to upload our personal picture and have it centered. You can make personal labels here with your photos on them. The program walks you through all the steps and it is pretty easy. You will have to select the Design and Print link towards the bottom of the page. Then select New Project. Under the window to the left, you will have to select what type of label you are intending to create. Since we were doing a cd, we chose the Media Labels and Inserts option. If you're doing a label, then select the appropriate label code. We chose Cd Option 5692, then hit the next button. Select a cd photo option you think you would like to design. What you are viewing now are simply examples of where the text will be located on your cd. Then hit next. Here is where you can import your own photo from your private library. Then hit the OK button. Be sure the photo you select is 2 MB (megabytes) or smaller or it won't take.

If you need to resize your photo, download Irfanview. It's a free program that allows you to resize your photos.
* When choosing a photo for your cd, it is best to use a photo that either veers off to the left or the right, so that too much of the body of the
photo isn't cut out.

You can rearrange your photo so that the center of the cd is exactly where you'd like it to be. If you're pleased with your design, hit the next button until it takes you to the Print Your Project Screen, where you can print your cd's new label.

For the rear label, displaying all of our songs, we used the Avery 8164. This label is 3 1/3 x 4 inches. We listed the songs on the label via Microsoft Word. In WORD, you'll have to go to the Tools option, then select Letters/Mailings, then select Envelopes & Labels. You'll have to hit the Options button, then search for the label's corresponding number (i.e. 8163). If your list of songs doesn't all fit onto the label, you'll have to adjust
your font, by selecting the size option on the above tool bar. Fonts typically start at size 12... so you can work your way down from
there.

We bought the Memorex cd making kit from Staples, that provided us with a cd stomper. (This contraption allows us to lay down the new cd label, and then the cd, so that the alignment is perfect.

And there you have it, you have created a personal gift that your guests will have for years. Every time they listen to the cd, they will think
back on your wedding and the couple. It's a great memory.
