Engaged..to the right one this time!
Hey everyone...Not sure if anyone remembers, but my engagement was broken off awhile back (after two and a half years and almost ten thousand dollars!) and I want to thank everyone who said such kind words to me to help me through it. Well, I know it hasn't been as long as I'd like in between, but I believe I have found the right man this time. ..as long as I'm here, I want to gush about him a little bit.
His name is Peter. He's a little bit younger than I am, but incredibly intelligent and just..wonderful. He has qualities that I really value like his compassion, sense of humor, intelligence, affectionate, driven, and the respect he shows toward me. He knows what he knows very well and isn't afraid to be proven wrong. We've actually had many conversations where we don't necessarily agree, but it's actually fun to talk about the differences. He's never put me down or called me names. I know it sounds stereotypical, but we really ahve a lot in common. He works with computers, on the hardware side...i'm in computers now, only on software side. We both have technical background, and where he excels in technical things, I have the arts background. Anyways, he's really a gem... He always tells me that I'm great and beautiful and smart...and while i know great relationships aren't based on compliments, it's nice to be told without asking if "this outfit looks good?"
He bought me a ring, and proposed at my work. All my coworkers were fluttering about. The ring is beautiful and simple and elegant. I really feel like he loves me for me, good and bad. And while there are things that I don't like about him, the good far outweighs the bad. He has a good head on his shoulders and ...he's just wonderful. I can barely believe that he wasn't already taken. ...and his family loves me.
It's not perfect...but he's perfect for me.

Yay! Welcome back! I have wondered what happened to you!
My husband is five years younger than me, so don't sweat it. (It's a really good thing .)
Congratulations on your new engagement! You know we like pics - and it's nice to see your face in your avatar - so get posting!

I hope they're not really huge... That's us. I was wearing my glasses (obviously). =]
He looks really young in both pictures, but he is not a minor, i promise! He doesn't like that second picture. He says he looks angry. lol I'll be getting more in when he sends me the pictures from our trip to NYC.

Welcome back!! And congratulations!! Also, I love your new (or at least, new to us) haircut!
I saw the tango thread first, saw the date of your original post and though, geesh, some spammer is digging up year-old posts again...then realized it was you, almost exactly a year after you started the thread!

Thanks!! Actually, I graduated college and moved to Virginia where I'm working now. =] Anyone else over here in VA?
Not sure if I mentioned it, but he just got shipped out to Japan (He's Navy). I dropped him off Wednesday at the airport..and I got woken up at 6:15 this morning. He called from an internet phone from japan! It was like 9pm there. I was so happy to hear from him...but i was also very much half asleep and I don't remember most of the conversation we had. Anyways, this time around, I'm much less concerned with the actual wedding..and more concerned with the marriage. It's so nice to not stress out about it! I'll have to post a pic of my ring when I get a camera, my phone cam does a poor job of capturing the sparkles.
He sent me an email and ..it seems wierd, but it just brightened my day. =] Does anyone else have a fiance overseas?

So.......
How'd you meet?
How long have you known each other?
When's the wedding?
Where are you going to live when he's done with the Navy?
How much more time does he have to go?
CURIOUS MINDS WANT TO KNOW! and I'm not afraid to ask!

So excited to talk about it!!
Before I got the job I'm at now, I was working part time at a Gamestop. (remember, I'm still pretty fresh out of college) Well, he and his friend Lobue, stopped in to buy Warcraft. Now, I'm a huge gamer, so I had to give them a hard time about the characters they were playing. Well, I sold the expansion pack to Peter. (He later told me he bought it b/c i said I was playing it and he wanted to play together) Well, he bought it and they left...Twenty minutes later, they came back in looking for Lightscribe discs. Now, if you've ever been in a gamestop, you'd know that we don't sell those kinds of things. That's something a computer store would have, not a videogame store..which he knew full well. But it was his excuse to come back in and see me.
Well we were talking and he (from what they told me) was really really nervous about talking to me. Anyways, he asked me what I was doing that weekend, and I said "Nothing. You should call me". so he did, the next morning and we went out that saturday.
We went to a place called Cheeseburger in Paradise. It was awesome, and then we did lasertag, bumpercars, gokarts, and pool at a funland. I had soo much fun. After that, we just sort of hit it off. We had so much to talk about and he was really interesting. It all sort of built up to when he went back home for two weeks before he left.
I spent Thanksgiving with his family and they all really like me. We've had a few arguments, but we agreed, after the first one to talk about it and never leave angry..it was awesome.
Anyways, the wedding is in September of 2009. hes going to come back on leave to marry me so it'll be easier to get a shore command when he gets back. I'm living on my own with a roommate right now, and i'll be with him (the roommate) until Peter gets back. Peter's met my roommate and he trusts him with me. And i'm really good friends with him anyways. My family wasn't so sure about a guy roommate, but it's not a big deal...but i digress. =]
He has two years overseas, with leave time every 6-8 months. So he'll be back, but just not for long. I know we'll be okay though. I can't wait to see him again.
It's so exciting to be able to be excited to get married!!!

A few. I'm supposed to collaborate via email with him on a lot of the stuff.
The colors are Dark red and silver. My flowers are roses and oriental lillies...the size of the wedding will be medium-small. I'm thinking anywhere between 30 and 60 people. We're trying to decide on whether to have it in New York (his home state), Ohio (where my parents are), or in Virginia where we are. I'm thinking NY cause stuff is WAY to expensive in VA, and his family that he wants to invite has to come from Canada. It's really nice too cause his family isn't really huge and we've already decided we're not going to invite family just to 'be nice' even though we never talk to them
As far as I know we're only having a Maid of Honor and Best Man. No other bridesmaids. Unless he has friends he'd like to be groomsmen. It really doesn't matter too much to me about all the little details I freaked out about last time. Hopefully, we can find a decent photographer, and then a DJ and a cake. I had a cake I liked that he liked, but I'm going to keep looking anyways just in case. I'm growing out my hair, so maybe I should start finding a hairstyle. I have my dress, shoes, undergarments and stuff done. I think i'm going to remake my veil though. It's too fluffy. I'm thinking about making an oval veil and see how I can arrange that. Everyone at work wants to help me out. The ladies I work with from up front, my manager...they're all willing to chip in ideas. It's really exciting. Once we get the big things down - venue, photog, cake, and reception we're pretty much done. =]

I think the colors will be great. You have plenty of time so don't stress.
So where your parents surprised? I know they weren't happy about you being engaged the first time, have they come around?

Careful girl - we were married in Albany NY and everything together was just over 30 grand for 170 people. I'm thinking VA may be cheaper?

You know, there are some pretty expensive areas in VA. Ido wonder though.

That's true... It also depends on where you are in NY, too. Long Island is much different than Albany, which is different from Plattsburg, etc.

well, they were not happy to meet him...at least my mom wasn't. I don't want to tell them until about this time next year. That way they won't give me a hard time about getting engaged again. I know they'll think i'm not ready. My mom was mad I was dating again...and that was only amonth or two ago.

I'm nearish to you, in Alexandria. The area of VA we're in is a suburb of Wash, DC, and you're not that much farther out. And yep, it's pricey. Pretty comparable to Albany, from what you've said of yours, Heather. My wedding was somewhere around $25K for 150. I think as far as prices in NY vs. VA, it is going to depend hugely on where in each of those states you're looking at. Near any of the big metro areas (NYC, Albany, Wash DC, Richmond probably) it's going to be expensive. The farther out from there you go, the cheaper it will probably get...but the fewer options you'll have, too.
