Unity Candle with Matching Taper Candles
Materials:
- 1 large pillar candle of your chosen color/height
- 2 taper candles of your color
- Silk flowers (small ones)
- Small pearl beads
- Greenery
- Straight pins (cut to about ¼”)
- Elmer’s Glue or Gel
Instructions:
Step 1 – Adding the flowers
Take apart your flowers from the stem, as you only need the “blooms.” For these candles I used two blooms on top of each other. Lay out your flowers in a mock pattern (here a wavy S) on the candle, and mark their locations using a marker or pencil. After marking them, pin the blooms to the marked spot using a straight pin. I suggest using a thimble or other solid object to help push the pins in, as your thumb can get quite sore after a while. Follow the same procedure of marking and pinning the blooms on the remaining candles. I recommend starting with the unity candle.
Step 2 – Adding the greenery
Cut off your greenery from the stem, making shorter and longer pieces (some for the stem, some for leaves). Try to find pieces that lay flat if possible. Now, using the Elmer’s Glue, place the stems under the blooms where you’d like them. This can be tedious, so make sure you have the time and patience for this step. *You may have to hold the piece on for a few minutes until the glue adheres.* Repeat process on remaining candles. Wait for the stems to dry (at least an hour) before adding the leaves. Using shorter pieces of the greenery you cut, place and glue them however you’d like to create leaves in the same manner that you did the stems. Again, I suggest letting it dry for some time before continuing on.
Step 3 – Final Touches
Almost done! Using the Elmer’s Glue, glue 3 pearl beads (this can be adjusted, of course) in the center of each bloom. If you use too much glue and it oozes over, don’t worry - it will dry clear. Let dry overnight before using or packing.
