Were you counting on money from your mom and she backed out?

MTGH- yes I was counting on my mom and she backed out this week, 2 months before the wedding. Thus the reason I am stressing. I don't make enough to pay for everything else by myself.

Margie- we were going to do mms but since my mom backed out i don't know what I am going to do. The MMs were around 150-190 for all of them, and now I don't have room for them in the budget.

LJ- I am having a friend help with the balloons. To do all the tables and the arch it is only going to be $40-$50, she has the helium and hi float to keep them floating longer. She said she would set up them for me so I don't have to stress about that.

If anyone has any inexpensive ideas for favor please send them my way. I can only spend 50-100 max.

I may be able to save you some money if you're interested?

I have the following I can send you:
  • a ring bearer's pillow (simple and white)
  • a flower girl's bouquet (white roses)
  • extra guestbook
  • about 30 white votive candles
  • streams of tulle (white)
  • platinum cake cutting and serving set (I would need this one back )

PM if you would like any of this stuff and I would be happy to mail it to you!

Thats a great deal on balloons.

For favors we are doing candy just getting random Candy's and putting them in buckets with a little paper baskets (Michaels for 3.95 for 12) for the guest to pick what candy they want to put in them. The paper baskets coast me 30.00 and the buckets was $1 each at walmarts. Then the coast of candy.

Hmm...favors....
  • after dinner mints wrapped in tulle and tied with a ribbon. You could attach a little note with the ribbon
  • a small votive candle wrapped in tulle and tied with a ribbon
  • since it's a spring(ish) wedding you could have seed packets
  • Michaels has little clay pots for pretty cheap. You could spray paint them in your wedding colors and fill with some sort of candy wrapped in tulle

We did homemade cookies wrapped in cellophane & tulle and stuffed them in little homemade bags. They were very cute, but of course we chose a super complicated cookie recipe and the bags took a looooooong time to make. My orginal idea was to make plain old chocolate chip cookies and wrap them in cellophane and then in tulle and tie with a ribbon, but my wonderful mother took it a couple steps further!

Oh, I like Cupie's idea of the seed packets--you could play up the theme of "Love Blooms..." That would be less than a dollar each. Or you could get indivdual Lindt chocolate truffles MAYBE for 50 cents each? And wrap them in the free tulle from Heather!

Absolutely! Mike and I have been going through EVERYTHING in prep for the move and I've found a bunch of stuff I don't need anymore. I think I have other colors of tulle too that were given to me. I also have a TON of little white mesh bags that have a string you can pull to close up the top.

We are doing cookies for favors too, I have a very soft sugar cookie recipie that I LOVE!!!! so we are doing our initials and putting them in glassine envelopes, I'm guessing it will cost us about $40...for 250 people (gotta love Sam's Club)...Also, what kind of ribbon are you looking for? Try Oriental Trading company, i just got a recent catalog, they have a ton of stuff and candies and what not.

Favor idea - we did this. Cost for 100 was approx. $30.00 (including tulle)

Note attached: Please have a spoonful of kisses from the Mr. & Mrs.

Favor: 2 hershey kisses on a clear plastic spoon, wrapped with a little round tulle doily (sp?) - tied with curling ribbon.

Very inexpensive, not very time consuming and everyone liked it. You could also do "hugs & kisses from the Mr. & Mrs." and skip the spoon, use little mesh bags like Heather has. I used a pretty font at work and got one of those scissors that makes a scalloped edge. It was pretty cute.

I really like all of the ideas, I think the hugs and kiss are my fav. And I can buy them next month due to valentines day. should I make them for the wedding guest only or everyone including the reception guests.

I would make them for all the female guests of both the wedding and the reception and have the flowergirls hand them out...

for the flowergirl to do it, her mom would have to walk with her. She is only 3 well will be 4 the 16th. She is shy. So I don't know how that would work.

Just thinking....
Maybe I could put them in a basket and set them by the door. Put them in white tulle and then tie them with purple ribbon and put a little tag on them that says
"Hugs and Kisses From
Matt and Steph
March 25,2006"
And do little heart cut outs since my invites have hearts on them. How cute I love this idea.

Maybe not the flower girl then! What normally happens over here is that (if the girls are old enough) they go round on their own otherwise I've been at a few weddings where the bride and MOH do it, the bride thanks every femal guest for coming while the MOH carries the basket of favours and hands them to the bride to give... It tends to take a while that way though! I think that's why the FG doesn't acompany the bride!

I think we're going to have them at every woman's place setting for the meal then in a basket next to the guest book (with a wee card saying thanks for coming and help yourself!) for the evening guests. We will say a thank you during the bands break too, just so everyone knows we appreciate them being there...

ETA:To be honest I think it's probably one of those wee details you end up obsessing about but will never remember after the day is over! Do whatever and I'm sure it'll work out just fine

Steph, another thing to cut cost -- unless you have a friend who plays piano and is willing to do it for very little (or nothing at all), you *could* pick up a cd of wedding favorites (probably really inexpensive on Amazon) and just get a friend to play the right tracks at the right time. Musicians for weddings can be really pricy when they're good.

ETA: Here's a link to one that's $4.98...as opposed to like, $100+ for a good pianist! Also (you probably know this) if you can find something else you need on there -- like little books about love that would be good as gifts for the WP -- you can get the free shipping. I love Amazon.

CW- we are getting married at a very small country church that his family has attened for the past 100 years. The lady that plays the piano will more than likely do it for free. Matt is supposed to call her monday and talk to her. I actually think that it is one of his cousins. So hopefully she will, because they don't have a cd player and it would be almost imposible to add one in somewhere cuz the church is tiny. I will keep that one cd in mind just in case.

Come to think of it, my mom still has one from my aunts wedding and they also used it at my sisters. So If I need a cd i will just steal it from my mom.
