Lake Tahoe!
I live in Reno, NV, and I am set on getting married in Lake Tahoe. I want a classic, simple wedding without the gimmicks. Here's my problem: all I'm finding is places that want to offer me a bunch of stuff that I don't need, and no simple locations that I can get married and have a reception at. Also... all of these locations in Tahoe require that I use their caterer, which is $45/person. Yowch! How do I get a great, simple, beautiful Lake Tahoe wedding for 30 guests under $3500? Thanks.

Welcome to PASH Wedding Forums
Hi hsmillie
Welcome to PASH! Hopefully you will be able to take a walk through the site to see what advise fellow brides and experts can give you. I must admit that your question is out of my area of expertise. We do not handle destination weddings within the United States, but I can offer you some tips.
First of all since I do not know what time of year you are looking at for your wedding, it is hard to give sound advise. If you picked a warm weather date then with the budget that you have I would look at a Park rental in Lake Tahoe area. Then you can bring in whatever you want. However if you are going to use an indoor place either resort or hall, then you will have to follow what they offer because of their agreements or contracts. I get this allot with resorts outside of the United States, we have some that you have to use their photographer no matter what. Because of the contracts they have in place. I know it sounds harsh but they have to protect their vendors.
Maybe there is a local planner that can help you. Here are some that are within an organization that I trust.
1. http://www.happilyeverafterplanning.com/
2. A Sierra Soiree - In the Reno/Lake Tahoe Area. For assistance call 775-746-3776
Also I am going to see if I can get your posting out of the Destination wedding one and into something that will help you better.
I wish you nothing but the best!

Hi Melissa!
I have a friend who got marrid in Tahoe last June. They had what you want - a small (30 ppl) simple wedding. I didn't get to go, but I will contact them and try to get some details. I do know that they had to move the venue last minute b/c of the forest fires, so maybe they'll be able to recommend a few places...
Good Luck!

my cousin got married there, too...I get confused because I know there is a North Tahoe and a South Tahoe (is that right)..I'll find out where they went, but I also know they had 50 people and I think the had the entire package (cake, flowers, photographer, dinner, champagne) and it was close to $2500...and was in-peak season...

My sister and her husband got married at Caesar's Tahoe. They are no longer in business; the new name for the resort/casino is Mont Bleu. Check them out. The wedding chapel is really nice-looking (at least it used to be when it was Caesar's). My sister had a no-frills wedding with the basics (chapel, minister, photos, and flowers), and it didn't break the bank. The chapel can fit as many as 75 people in it; my sister had about 20 or so and it was great. For the reception, they took us to Lewellen's (in another casino); dinner was anywhere from $25 to $40 per person.
My best friend also got married at Caesar's Tahoe. For their reception, they reserved a bunch of tables at Planet Hollywood. Each meal was under $20 (we had three choices).

Wow! That's really great, I would love to hear where that was! There is a North Shore and a South Shore, but I'm fine with either. There's also Incline Village, which is around North Shore, and I'd be fine with somewhere there, too. Honestly, everywhere around Lake Tahoe is beautiful, so I'm open to anything. The location doesn't matter THAT much to me, I just want it to be kind of romantic.
Thanks!

Marriage Requirements
I just want to pipe into this topic for a moment. Make sure that you ask where you would be getting married because part of Lake Tahoe is California and the other is in Nevada, two different marriage requirements.

I was a destination bride. I was married in the smoky mountains in Townsend, TN. I understand you need for a small no frills but unique and romantic wedding.
I have to admit I find it odd that they do not want to accommondate your needs. The chapel that I chose offered as much or little as I wanted.
Here is another option. Check with your lodging options. Even though I booked by wedding through a wedding chapel service....our lodging accommondations said they could handle the wedding also. This is something you find in most popular destination wedding areas. Lake Tahoe being one of them. Maybe they have a lodge, reception area or meeting area that you could use for your reception needs. You could have a local resturant cater your affair much cheaper.
This post may be too late and you have already found your solution, but if not, I hope it helps.
