Default Airplane questions..

Well our honeymoon is only 7 days away!!

My question is do we have to have our shampoo/personal car items in plastic zip loc bags? They will all be going in out regular luggage, not carryon.
Also, can we bring razors (to shave) in our luggage..not carryon.
We've never flown before and I know some of you fly often.

Thanks ladies

You can bring both of those in your checked bags. And no, the shampoo does not have to be in a zip lock bag. Although I do suggest it, so that it doesn't explode all over your clothes by accident. Thats not fun!

FYI- you only need the zip lock bag for fluids in your carry on luggage. It has to be the sandwich size, no bigger.

You dont *have to* have it in ziplocs, but its advisable because you never know how they handle your baggage and bottles may burst all over your clothes. You can pretty much take anything in your checked in luggage. (including scissors and razors)

The only restriction is in your carryon. No sharp objects, not even the mini eyebrow scissors). You can take liquids but it must be in mini 3oz. bottles or less.

Make sure you take 2-3 days worth of clothes in your carryon just in case there's a delay in your baggage arrival or in case they get lost.

Ditto on everything said before me. I would highly suggest the zip lock baggies though. I had a BAD experience with my body spray and aloe bottles and lucky for me they were both in baggies and I didn't have a HUGE mess to clean up. They were in my checked bags too. I just did it because I didn't want to deal with the hassle of having to clean up a mess just in case.
Also carrying a day or 2's worth of clothes is great advice! My parents and aunt and uncle have all had a problem with bags arriving at their destinations and didn't have any spare clothes until the airline found their baggage.

I strongly advise you to put your shampoo and other liquids in Ziploc bags in case the bottles burst during the flight.

If you are taking carry-on shampoo or other liquids/gels, the container must not be able to carry more than three ounces, regardless of how much of the product is actuall in the bottle. For example - If you have three ounces of shampoo, the shampoo cannot be in a four-ounce container. Yes - They are that knitpicky. If you take any shampoo or other liquids/gels in your carry-on bags (e.g., if you carry lotion in your purse), the containers must be in a see-through Ziploc bag that is no larger than quart-size. You are allowed one quart-sized Ziploc per passenger.

If shampoo and other liquids/gels are in your checked baggage, it doesn't matter about the container size.

I advise you to put your shaving razors in your checked baggage.

Also - If you buy a soda or other beverage (e.g., bottled water or coffee), you cannot take the beverage with you past the security checkpoint. I had to guzzle down a 20-ounce cup of Starbucks because they wouldn't let me take it with me and there was NO WAY I was going to throw it away!

I dont get it, like a zip loc is really going to protect people from any type of explosive chemical

Not to get off topic or anything... But I just got back from Chicago yesterday. I'm looking through my purse for reciepts (for my expense report) and I see that I had "Military tear gas/ Red pepper spray" in my purse.

My husband is a police officer, he bought this for me some time ago. I put it in my checked baggage on the way to Chicago. When I got there, I put it in my purse. Well, I must have forgotten to take it out yesterday!! I just found it. Why didn't security find it in my purse??? It's illegal to have!!! I couldn't just walk into a store and buy it WTF?! "Don't bring a bottle of water through security, but tear gas is just fine"

I'm thinking about calling the airport...

The purpose of the bag is so that you can't have more than that much fluid, of any type. This way, if you mix chemicals on the plane, you couldn't do anything too bad- since you only have so much fluid with you. It's stupid IMO.

Everyone has already answered your question. Here is the TSA website, it has more detailed information. Just in case you want to check another item.

http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm

http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtrav...ted-items.shtm

I normally just put all liquids in my checked bag. I hate the thought of having to take it out when you're going through security, there is already so much going on. From taking your shoes off to watching your bags.

My FH works at the airport - and you should see some of the things people try to bring on airplanes! The latest one was the best though- a little girl going on vacation had her own little Barbie purse as a carry-on. When they x-rayed it, her hamster was inside. She was afraid that it would die without her, lol. Luckily, they had someone come get the hamster and take it back home, but Josh said he couldn't stop laughing all day.

First of all, have fun on your honeymoon!!

Second, everyone had given really good advice and I am going to add my 2 pennies. If you will be bringing any jewelry (other than what you are wearing), you might want to pack that in your carry-on luggage; that way it stays with you. Unfortunately, not everyone is as honest as we would like them to be, so I always keep that stuff with me when I fly.

Also, if you are on any daily medications, I would suggest getting a little 1 or 2 week pill container and keeping those meds with you in your purse or carry-on as well. That way if your luggage is "misplaced" you have everything you need.

Have a great time!

Default Sorry to disagree

Sorry I have to disagree with the second posting. You need to put all of your liquids (that means, lotion, shampoo and such) in a quart size ziploc bag. Plus you don't want that to break while you are traveling, then end up with it all over your luggage and it is the law otherwise it will be taken away.

Congrats!

I'm pretty sure the second poster meant that you don't have to have liquids in ziploc bag in your checked luggage, but that it is still a good idea to prevent leakage messing up your stuff.

For the record - I would have stood there in the middle of the line and polished off the bottle of wine, even at 7am. Especially at 7am before getting on a plane.
