Hi Ember!
First off, congratulations to being the mother of the groom! Secondly, I don't think it would hurt to ask about having your hair and makeup done with your future daughter in law. Most makeup teams are glad to oblige (it makes them more money!) and I think it might give the bride a sense of relief knowing one of the most important people of the day won't get stuck in traffic on the way back from the salon, or have a blown-out tire or any of the million things that could happen between point A and point B on the Big Day (I say this because I've seen at least half happen personally! )
If you don't feel right and still want to get hair and makeup done, I think you should find a place that does both so you don't have to run around so much. Not knowing how traffic will be, if there is an accident that has caused delays, etc. is nerve-wrecking and could cause you to be late to such an important event.
If after all this and you still want to get your hair and makeup done at two places, here is my advice:
1) If it takes 30 minutes to get to one place from the other, give yourself 1 hr to be on the safe side. Hopefully, if you arrive at one of the salons early they may take you early.
2) If you are going to be in contact with water when it comes to your hair, I may say get your hair done first. Even if makeup is set to last all day, if your hair is going to be washed or wet, and then a towel is going to be used near the hair line, it will move some of the makeup. When my team and I do weddings, we generally do the hair first since that is what takes the most time as well.
3) However far the last salon is from the wedding, give yourself double the amount of time, just in case some unforeseen event should occur.
I hope I have been helpful, and if anyone on the board has had a similar situation or experience and would like to chime in, we'd love to have you!
