Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!
Yes, at times it can be very difficult to find the right shade for our skin tones. As far as women of color go, usually you will find that you need 2-3 colors for your whole face. I'm sure you notice that certain parts of your face are lighter than others. This creates dimension and contours in the face.
When dealing with women of color, I like to use the following brands:
1) Cinema Secrets (
www.camerareadycosmetics.com) for $20, you get 5 shades of foundation to mix, highlight and contour. The cream foundation glides on like silk, and once it sets it becomes like a second skin. It won't wear off or rub off on clothes. It also holds beautifully in humid weather. You may not have heard of cinema secrets, but it is a professional brand so I highly recommend it. I used it on the featured bride on my website (
www.bridalmakeupartists.com) and I used 3 colors on her. Mary's website Camera Ready Cosmetics is a great place to find all the professional makeup brands that many industry professionals use. If you e-mail her any questions, she will get back to you very quickly, and she will even assist you in choosing colors appropriate for your coloring.
2) Graftobian (
www.camerareadycosmetics.com) Another professional brand, but better for dryer skin types.
3) Black Opal (

Created by a dermatologist, it's wonderful makeup at a great price. The only drawback is that it is hard to find and try out.
4) IMAN (
www.ulta.com)
Some very nice shades to choose from, and a brand with some great products.
I hope this has helped, and if anyone wants to throw in their suggestions we are all ears
